The 600 horsepower 458 Scuderia will be at the Frankfurt Auto Show. This year's show is from September 10th to 22nd.

Our sources on the ground in Italy have informed us that the stripped-out, 563-hp Ferrari 458 Challenge race cars provide a good indication of where the Scuderia will go, but it won’t stop there. There’s too much pressure being put on those in Maranello by the people in Sant’Agata, where Lamborghini’s Gallardo Superleggera and Super Trofeo racers have become genuine threats.

We’re hearing that the heart of the work has been done on the seven-speed dual-clutch Getrag-sourced automatic gearbox, the flat-crank 90-degree 4.5-liter V-8, and on aerodynamics. Some weight will be dropped via exotic compound materials and slightly stripped interior fitments to get dry weight down below 2900 pounds, but that task wasn’t an overriding priority.

Regarding the F136-FB direct-injected V-8, horsepower will climb from the standard car’s 562 up to “roughly” 600 in this application. This is made possible by a new set of forged connecting rods that can take the stresses of the new 9300-rpm redline—up from the usual 9000 limit of the standard 458. Of course, newly calibrated ECUs oversee and aid in the power increase. As if the added 40-ish horsepower isn’t theater enough, our sources speak of more-open exhaust outlets and a resultant “significantly increased” orchestra of sound emanating from the car’s rear.

The sound has been described as arrabbiato—that’s Italian for angry. This pleases us.

^^^ I can't wait for the day they decide to start making medium displacement v8's that rev freely up to 12k. I know they COULD now, but not for daily driving duty. But if ppl are already paying a half-million for their super cars, what's really stopping them from doing so.

458 doesn't sound very good though...compare to 360, 355 or 348.

If you rev that high, pump gas won't handle.
It will pre-ignite due to friction from compressed air.

They've far exceeded that. we just cant afford them and they wouldnt get 100000km's min life span

People who buy that kind of car won't expect cars to last long without expensive maintenance anyways.
Same with Lamborghini, Pagani, Bugatti, etc.

The T-rex is a 1.4L 4 cylinder... not exactly hard to find a bike motor that revs there. The Yamaha was never built. Not the best examples. I don't know of any STREET V8s that have ever seen 10,000rpm for reasons already stated but there are lots of racecar derived ones. My personal favourite is the Judd V8s, at around 10,500 rpm:


That 1 series derived racecar was driven by the legendary Georg Plasa before he died last year. Around 2100lbs, around 550hp, just insanity. RIP.

I say it's about time Ferrari released this car. The Lamborghini gallardo superleggera is a serious competitor
for Ferrari in the "entry level" segment for exotic sports cars. They had to
bring their "A" game with the Scuderia.

The car was never actually produced.

Eventually the project was delayed until 1994, before finally being cancelled. A total of three prototypes were built by IAD.

Anyways... my point was just that none of your cars were normal street cars like the Scuderia and if you wanted to look at racecars, there are better ones (like the one I posted).

Did you really say "That 1 series isn't even stock"... no shit sherlock, it's a purpose built racecar from the ground up with a tube frame, carbon body, Judd V8, sequential gearbox, and DTM aerodynamics. There is no stock car in it.

9300 redline is crazy, any street car that is revving higher is some motorcycle derived engine in a barely legal go kart.

wonder how this thing will compare to a Porsche GT3 and whatever the gallardo successor is.

It's going to be fantastic for sure. I do wish though that they would at least offer a manual. It wouldn't be any quicker, but it would be more fun, and isn't that part of the experience? But alas, those times are definitely coming to an end. Not even the new GT3 has a manual anymore. New tech for a new generation...:toot:

Very excited to see the Scuderia version of the 458. I drove the F430 Scud in Vegas at the Exotics Racing track and fell in love. Honestly I haven't been too into the 458 since it's release. I still prefer the 430. I look forward to further details and real pics.
