Question: Ghetto Alarm System Remote
 

Hey guys,

The remote control for my mom's Sienna is on the verge of absolute destruction. I was wondering if there are any options in either replacing the housing, the remote itself, or to simply replace the entire alarm/remote lock system altogether?

For what it's worth - we don't know what brand of system it is or who installed it. We bought the car from a salvage lot owner (a family friend) which was a theft recovery (van was stripped and VIN tags stolen.)

Ideally, we'd like to upgrade the system through one of the RS vendors (paging orgasm_donor) but at the same time, we want to explore the fastest and cheapest option of doing this (re: replacing the housing or the remote itself.) Here are some pictures:

Ordering remote is probably the cheapest option. Make sure you can find a brand and model # and track down a manual for the programming instructions.

Otherwise new alarm is probably a better solution.

even though the buttons aren't exactly the same, it looks like you can just swap the innards to the new housing or even program the new remote to work

Okay, just an update.

I managed to pick up 2 remotes off ebay (it was $10 for 2.) I found the programming instructions as such: PDF file to instructions

Okay, I've done that but...the code learning process does not work? Am I doing something wrong or is this ghetto POS alarm worth binning? Or are the remotes I bought no good because they've already learned a previous code? :suspicious:

When relearning the code, your new alarm remotes should bump the old remote's codes out. That is if all is working properly.
