Letty: IT'S BEING IMPORTED RIGHT DOWN THE BLOCK.

lol that crappy nissan was $90k, why would you still guess under $50k for that BRZ.. I was thinking at least $120k...

But this is why Singapore is one of the cleanest cities around...

my understanding from what the locals told me when I was there, the cars have a 100% tax on top of the prices PLUS $90K for the license/plate (does not including insurance) to have it on the road for 10 years. After 10 years the license expires and you have to buy the license/plate again at the going rate of that year.... insane! I thought cars were expensive here in China.

^Yup, that's the "COE" mentioned in the video.

Good god..What is their used car market like? Is the culture something along the lines of - "New car or no car" making the used cars affordable, or is the used market just as insanely priced.

tiger_handheld 06-05-2013 05:41 PM

i bet you cars appreciate in places like singapore.

PowerOn 06-05-2013 05:59 PM

My dad has a body shop in Singapore.

It is very rare to find a Singaporean car over 5 years old, recently in early march the government has new rules on buying cars that was suddenly pushed out with no warning ahead of time for people to prepare.

1) Only allow 5 year financing (vs longer terms)
2) Minimum 20% down payment

Reports from my dad say that the used car market is in a huge struggle now, even more so compared to before. As a result the cars on the road are really really nice and clean, and in general you see a lot more higher models than you do here. The difference in price between a 3 series and a 5 series over the term of financing is miniscule so most people just opt for the higher up 5, as an example.

maybe could import it to neighboring countries like Indonesia or Malaysia?
