BB Playbook is dead?

BlackBerry shares plummet; first-quarter loss of $84 million | News1130

TORONTO (NEWS1130) – Shares of BlackBerry (TSX:BB) plunged nearly 26 per cent in early trading after the smartphone maker’s latest results fell short of analyst expectations and it warned that further losses were likely to come next quarter.

The Waterloo, Ont.-based company posted a first-quarter loss of US$84 million, 16 cents per share for the three months ended June 1, improved from a loss of $518 million or 99 cents per share a year ago.

But the adjusted loss from continuing operations was $67 million, or 13 cents per share, deeper than predictions of six cents per share profit, according to a poll of analysts by Thomson Reuters.

The company’s shares fell $3.87 to $11.18 shortly after trading began on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

BlackBerry also said it has scrapped plans to offer an operating system update to its PlayBook tablet, signalling that the company plans to eventually clear the sales flop from its products entirely.

Missing from the results were specific sales figures for its new smartphone models, and subscriber figures, which the company used to provide but says no longer accurately reflect its business model.

It was dead even when it first started. I think it came out around the time of the iPad and the sales difference was astronomical

Playbook is dead? They've got much bigger problems than the Playbook.

They're getting hammered on the markets today. Shouldn't have projected such bold numbers before the launch of BB10.

No sales for q10 counted basically.

I knew they were going to fall a bit more before they got back up, hopefully with the release of Q5, things might be looking up a bit better as it is more affordable for countries that can't afford to pay for the mid tier devices.

Q1 ended in May, so only so many countries had z10s actually released and q10 came out on may 5th to only two countries, now more than 10.

Aside from being so optimistic, if blackberry does not market their shit properly, they may, just may slowly get swallowed up but that would take a few years to get rid of 72 million subscribers.

I have a huge sense that people hate blackberry because of old devices but that should not rule out on Blackberry 10's qnx os because it's actually great and developing for blackberry is so easy.

I'm pretty disappointed in fact that after all this time they decided not to bring bb10 to the PlayBook, i was really looking forward to it. There is a 10.1 leak for it if anyone is eager to try it out.
