Need help from network/internet wifi gurus!!!!
 

My situation.

Will this work:
1) shaw cable modem is connected to my Asus wi-fi router N300 rating (all of this are in the basement, where i live, I am the owner paying all the bills).
2) I have 2 additional Asus routers that i want to setup as repeaters.
3) My house has a a tenant upstairs and a tenant in the guest house/coach house.

Qusetion:
Can I setup 2 repeaters to extend my router signa; 1 to top 2 floors and 1 to coach house?
Will there be conflict to have more than one repeater in the house?

Note : I do not want to leave the main shaw modem in either tenants home, because they are more dummy in the tech world than i am. So in case something is wrong, I do not want to be in and out of either of their homes troubleshooting..

Are there any other solutions or better way to do to this? Tenants are having hard time getting Wifi signal from me.
All of my Routers have 2x 5dbi antennas OEM from router.

PS. Shaw doesnt want to give me another modem because they want me to pay another account instead of sharing internet.

i would use powerline ethernet adaptor to get a 'wired' connection upstairs. have a wireless router there. then same to the guest house.

another option is get a wireless access point. Brand is Amped. I have used this in the work environment and was able to get wifi through out a huge office space with no dead space.

I thought Access point needs a physical line to connect to My router in order to provide internet?

If you can flash your router to DD-WRT you can set it up as a wifi repeater (so either a CAT5 internet signal comes in, and gets converted to wifi, or a wifi signal comes in and is repeated as a wifi signal)

You could get the powerline ethernet adaptor as lilaznviper mentioned, then have it connect to a wireless router inside the coach house -- this is probably the best idea for the coachhouse because the shaw wifi router is not so great in terms of range.

I am using Asus high power router to broadcast signal from CAT5 line from shaw. It sends stronger signal from shaw's router (tested by me today). My repeaters are already wi-fi repeater from Asus.

The powerline signal from my basement to the coach home?.. I don't know if the power/electricity is shared between the two separate building, they are also separated by a concrete paved back yard the size of a 1/3 of a half
basketball court. I dont know if it will reach that far.

My question is if using 2 repeaters possible?

Powerline Ethernet is the future.. much easier to setup and get going and next to no configuring needed... The unit that connects to the shaw modem, turns the internet data into electrical power current then the other unit receives it and turns it back into data. Sounds confusing but works. Lag/Ping isnt really an issue.. Been playing BF3 with very little lag..

The cable unit goes to your shaw modem, then get WiFi units and plug one upstairs in a power outlet, they should have no problems after.

To answer your question, the Wifi signal would be reduced by alot going through concrete, which is why the tenants are having troubles.

I found that repeating the wifi signal with repeaters don't work as well.

What you can do is do the powerline method to upstairs. Then get the Amped access point. and plug it upstairs. This access point does a hell of a job with outputting a wireless signal.

+1 to Powerline Ethernet. Fuck everything else. Fuck WiFi altogether. That shit is for hipsters who lounge around at coffee shops.

Another vote for the powerline ethernet. Plug and play, and way faster/reliable than wifi.

The non Wifi unit plugs into modem (or Asus Modem) the Wifi unit goes upstairs...

Can powerline go as far as coach home? Tenant tried it but said it was worse signal than his Wi-Fi

as long as the coach home isn't on a different electrical grid than the house it should work

For powerline to work, it needs to be on the same power grid.. that way your neighbor cant use it, unless they plug it from the outside outlet
also plugging the unit into a power bar also reduces the signal...

Ok, I am going to buy a powerline kit.

Which model do you guys use and recommand?

Is it any difference with a 500mps, or a 200mps speed model?.. Do they live up to their advertised speed? or signal degrades by how far and how many circuit breaker it goes across?. I will be setting it up from basement to a coach home suite.

Make sure the 2 end points are on the same panel.. or else it might not work.
