Any recommended civics? Hey RS! I was thinking of getting a used civic after the summer holiday and was curious if you guys had any recommendations. Looking for something older, like a hatchback. Maybe even a sedan. Anyone have any recommendations? Price range under $4,000 :D Im pretty sure im being too vague but ask questions! Thanks guys! EDIT: kinda looking for a ek or cx. condition of the car i can deal with later on, just looking for something reliable for a DD. EDIT 2 : maaybe something i can use as a project car :D |
With Civics being super abundant, are there any particular generations that you prefer over others? What kind of condition do you expect for the car? What do you plan on using the car for? (Just DD? something more showy? some actual performance driving? etc.) Elaborate on what you are looking for, or this is gonna be too vague. |
EG/EK or if you want some extra options and power, look at DC Integras |
89blkcivic would be my choice :troll: |
^^^lol EK = chassis code CX = trim level |
If the OP is simply looking for a DD, I am gonna go against the grain, and suggest an ES sedan / EM2 coupe from 04 or 05. The 01-03 ES/EM2 deservingly earned a poor reputation because Honda dropped the ball on a large number of items, but with Honda being Honda, (when they were preparing for the facelift in 04), they fixed everything that was buggy with the 01-03 cars, so the 04-05 ES/EM2 are typical Honda reliable. For DD duty only, I'd also say the D17 is a superior engine compared to the D16 or D15. It is not a torque monster by any stretch, by the extra displacement over the D16 or D15 is very noticeable, and that comes in handy for DD purposes. And since it is only gonna be a DD, the front struts aren't gonna be too much of a performance hindrance. Last but not least, the car's interior dimensions are noticeably larger than those from the previous gen, so that'll make for a good practical DD car as well. If you have any sort of performance aspirations or plans for modding, the ES/EM2 is the wrong car. |

I always see EM1s on CL but they're always really high KMs or rusted out :okay: Posted via RS Mobile |
I wouldn't touch a d17 with a 10 foot pole. I'd go for an eg hb or dc integra. Reasons being: 1. obd1 until 96 2. everything is lego between eg/dc which opens up your parts market 3. simple as heck 4. I'm weird and would rather a brand new si hb than a lambo if their value were the same |
i like the hatchbacks. prefer that over a sedan or coupe. but we'll see what happens. the eg is probably on the top of my list atm. looked on craigslist. only one D: lets see if anything pops up after the summer |
It’s going to depend on what your looking for. Budget of 4K, and if this is for a DD, Id look for a 97-01 Acura EL Premium with a 5 speed (leather, sunroof, d16Y8, AC ect) or a 96 EK coupe or 4 door with as many options as you can find (I know in 96-98 EX was the top model in the 4 door, there seems to be some confusion about it later). The Civics came with a D16Y7 and no leather or heated seats that I have ever seen as OEM. Both are easy drivers, don’t scream “hey look at me!” and can have all the options you would want for a DD. Get one that’s been well maintained (almost regardless of KMs) and take care of all your maintenance on time and they will run damn near forever and be great as a DD get around car. If you’re looking for a project / Fun car, it completely depends on goals, but it’s hard to beat any 88-01 civic chassis when done correctly in your budget range. You can make any of these into competitive drag or autocross cars, builds are well documented, all have deep communities available on line, and parts are easy to find. |
now that you bring it up, maybe it could be a nice project car :D |
It's going to be somewhat difficult to find an EG without the trademark rear quarter panel rust. Not impossible, but it is becoming increasingly difficult. EK also has that same rear quarter panel rust issue, but because the cars are newer, you'll have a better chance to find a rust-free copy. |
Yeah, if you want rust free, there are very few EG's around, unless you're ready to drop at least $3-4k but it'll probably be modded too. Bone stock and clean, you can still find EK's (incl. EL's) in the $2-3k range but swapping parts won't be as easy as with an EG. Like I said, DC's are also a good option. More rust free cars, still in your range, rear disc, bigger motor, power options, etc.... |
