Employer Not Paying Year End Bonus I resigned from my job for fiscal year end and gave my employer a two weeks notice. Employer had said that I would be entitled to a year end bonus which is calculated from my net profit for year end. They've paid out the bonus three weeks ago and a former colleague had informed me of so I emailed my ex boss and he said he had to inquire with his boss as he has no information about ex employees. He never got back to me so I emailed his boss and he said they are working on it and will update me. Its been 10 days and no updates. What steps can I take at this point? Monthly and year to date profit and loss statements come out regularly so I'm not sure why its taking so long. If anyone can shed some light into this matter it will be greatly appreciated. You have to be an employee at pay day to be entitled to it. Doesnt matter if you worked the fiscal year. This is from my experience at 3 big international companies. Posted via RS Mobile |
I'd be impressed if they would give it to you. I don't know the circumstances regarding your departure. But if it were me who were handing out bonuses I wouldn't give it to an ex employee unless they quit to take care of family or something. Keep on them though, you never know, it's worth trying for I would imagine. |
I'd be interested to see if you get it as well. I get an annual bonus based on the net profit my jobs bring in, no way I'd get a bonus even if I left at the 11th month mark of the year. |
what does your contract say? |
definition of bonus? |
Why would you leave knowing that you will have a bonus... ? I would have just toughed it out for another month or so just to get it. Posted via RS Mobile |
I left wanting to go into another field and company policy stated that a salaried position employee who had full control of their P&L was entitled to a bonus based on net profit. My employer told me that I was entitled to it if I stuck till fiscal year end which was when I quitted. Now it seems like I'm being kept in the dark. Posted via RS Mobile |
follow up next week (14 day mark) by phone call. |
Year end was April 1st which was the same date I quitted. The bonus payout was mid June. The gap was too big for me to stick around but my employer had verbally stated I would be entitled to the bonus. I will follow up by phone as suggested. Posted via RS Mobile |
That is a bit different as you left after the cutoff, I was under the assumption you left mid term and wanted everything up to that point. You would think you'd be entitled to it, hopefully it all works out for you. |

What stated in your employment agreement that you signed when you were hired? I don't know too many employers who would pay year end performance bonuses to former employees. Part of the value in paying a bonus is incentive for the employee to do a good job the next year too. Good luck |
Sounds like the employer is pushing the OP away by ignoring him. Business is business, if I were in the OP's former employers shoe, I wouldn't pay the OP the bonus. People will do anything to save money. Also coupled with the fact, the OP doesn't work for them anymore. Hopefully the OP has something in writing signed in regards to paid bonus after termination from the company. |
