Where is Hondaracer's official Quebec on Fire thread? Maybe we can make a few miscarriage jokes in there for you too.

Jesus...its a thread on the royal baby and now people are supposed to aplogize for not caring enough about the train derailment?

Do you all sit in a council where we can throw thread suggestions past you and you can give an up or down vote on if you care enough to read it?

Hondaracer 07-23-2013 07:34 PM

No I just watch the news and read the paper and occasionally catch entertainment tonight before I switch over to jeopardy so I know what they masses are watching

...a day in a life of Hondaracer.

Or, should it be "What is a day in a life of Hondaracer?"

Do parents ever consider their kid's initials before naming them?

My initials are BMW. My son's initials are also BMW. ;)

I'm going to have to agree with Hondaracer and Ronin. I've never understood the fascination people have with knowing about celebrity's lives or even the British Royal family. They're all regular people, just like you and me. They don't have superpowers or really any other significant physical detail that makes them different from the rest of us (well, apart from the incestual bloodline of the Royal families :p ), so why do people care about what they eat for dinner or what they call their latest child? I just find it sad that there are a ton of random threads in VOT (which, I should state, I'm perfectly okay with), but then no one makes one about the train explosion in Quebec that basically destroyed an entire town. I'm not saying everyone should care about things like that as well, but I would have thought at least one person would have posted a thread about it and not just one or two posts in the No Need For a New Thread Thread.

I mean, congrats to the Royal family and all for their new addition, but you'll never find me going gaga about it.

Asiana Airlines Crash: July 6th
Train derailment: July 6th.

5 Page thread on Asiana crash....nothing on the Quebec disaster....

You can make your own assumption.

Also, this is the second time someone has mentioned the Quebec disaster...if this was such an issue, why hasn't a thread been made yet?

AeroK 07-24-2013 11:12 AM

Royal baby?? Who cares!!! Cause i sure don't!!!

The Quebec reference was just an example of a close-to-home disaster that went unaccounted for on here. The Asiana incident, I'll admit, is something in which I had a personal interest in because I had two friends flying into LA with ETA's of roughly the time the plane had crashed, so I wanted to make sure it wasn't either of theirs.

I'm not faulting anyone for what they post or what they're interested in. Everyone has their list of things they like and don't like, and the average age on this site also reflects the majority of the posts on here. Again, not faulting anyone for that.

Ultimately I just personally don't understand the interest in other people's lives, is all.

AzNightmare 07-24-2013 11:55 AM

It's just ONE thread, people need to relax in here.
If you don't care, just click the back button.
No need to bash other people's celebrity fetishes.
The argument of priority in what is "more important" news is flawed.
There's always going to be some natural disaster or tragic event, and children starving in Africa.

No one seems to complain that the Canucks/NHL thread isn't important... :derp:

I don't care about the Royal family, but on the flip side, I see it silly to bash on other people's interests,
when a lot of you guys are the same people that would line up for hours just to meet a Canuck or get autograph signings.

it occurs to me that i don't know william's last name... it's always just prince william. sure i could look it up, but i don't care enough to.
and kiki wigglesworth's allowed to keep her last name too.
seems like the royals just don't have a last name

dinosaur 07-24-2013 04:25 PM

its Windsor....or formally Mountbatten-Windsor but they rarely use surnames (unless its for school, driver's license, etc).

Gridlock 07-24-2013 09:38 PM

The beauty of being the Royal family of Britain(or any other country really) you don't really need to hand over a business card for them to remember you.

"The name is William. Prince William. Yeah, just the one name. Yes...just like fucking Madonna "

While they are all part of the House of Windsor, both William and Harry use the surname Wales for at least their military service and I could guess those documents as well, and I imagine that Prince George in his likely future service would use the name Cambridge. Peerages supersede house names from what I recall.

dinosaur 07-24-2013 11:59 PM

Just looked it up on wiki:

Quote:

For the male-line grandchildren of Elizabeth II, however, there is currently some uncertainty over the correct form of family surname to use, or whether there even is a surname. The Queen has stipulated all her male-line descendants who do not bear the titular dignity of prince shall use Mountbatten-Windsor as their family surname (although Letters Patent exist stipulating the name Windsor, but with the same caveat). According to their flight suits as seen in television interviews, Princes William and Harry both used Wales as their surname for military purposes; this continues to be the case for William since his creation as Duke of Cambridge.
