Tablet opinion Looking for a 10in tablet! Is asus TF201 too old (also is there known wifi issue?), Is Asus TF300 good? (didnt read about any known issues) Is Asus TF700 (too laggy?) I am not looking to root/ install aftermarket rom. I want something stable and not laggy. Coming from a playbook (browser lags like shit), and Ipad (pretty smooth everywhere), I want an android tablet that does what it suppose to do. I am done with apple products. Please suggest me a good android tablet. I am also considering nexus 10, but it is hard to find one on the buy/sell market or craigslist. My budget is $300 -$350 |
Well first we need to know the size you are looking for, 7inch, 8inch or 10 inch? Currently I am using a Samsung Note 8. Very happy with it. Screen size is decent and bright, comfy enough to hold in one hand to read, not that heavy, also the stylus is very useful to take notes in meetings, or when I am doing some word processing. Also, I can export my docx and, excel and ppt to use on my desktop as well. Battery isn't too bad. I find the screen to be sharp and very crisp. When compare to the Nexus 7 it seems theat the note 8 screen is very bright and seems a lot better too. It does have a micro SD slot so you add a mirco SD card for your movies, movuis docs, HOWEVER I don't have you can install apps on the micro sd yet unless you root the tablet and put a custom rom on it. Drawback is that it is expensive when compare to other 7 to 8 inch tablet (heck is even more expensive than an ipad mini). The ppi is not as good as ipad. The camera sucks, it is plastic so some people might not like it. If you want an 10 inch Tablet I have to say the Nexus 10 is the best bang for your buck. Although it does look pretty ugly...... Edit you can order the Nexus 10 on google play website. |
Nexus 10 is too ugly.. My opinion is to get either the tf300 or memopad smart 10. They're both pretty much the same thing but memopad has no keyboard dock. ASUS Transformer Pad TF300 Specs vs ASUS MeMo Pad Smart 10 Specs |
^^ i read all reviews regarding the screen resolution, they say nexus 7 has a crisper higher resolution compared to the note 8 i own a nexus 7 and everytime id compare them out, i also find it that the note 8 has a higher and brighter screen resolution but ya the price at $430 is just a deal breaker im waiting to try out the galaxy tab 2 8.0 |

The new Samsung tab series is suppose to be out already and the price seems pretty decent. Some early reviews didn't really like the specs but I would wait and see actually reviews. Samsung's Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 starts at $399 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8 inch for $299 seems a pretty good deal. |
I got motorola xoom if you don't mind heavy tablet motorola xoom runs 4.2.2 AOSP (custom rom) The latest google official version is 4.1.2 pretty smooth and you can get it for cheap $200 ish on craigslist I must warn you it is H.E.A.V.Y I love my motorola xoom. and having a heavy chassis has it's own benefit. It's been drop multiple times - and it is rock solid and vanilla flavour of android cannot be beat Battery last forever too .. longer than my nexus 7 |
Nexus 7 (2) tablet is suppose to be annouced soon... I would wait for it if I were you. Suppose to come with 1920x1200 resolution, 2 cameras, snapdragon, and bigger battery. (basically everything that was negative regarding the first nexus 7) |
I am not looking for a 7inch, I only want 10inch tablets. So NExus 7 and note 8 is out of my choice |
i have a tf300. it does what it is supposed to do. would be nice if screen resolution was higher, but it really isnt an issue |

Have you looked at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2? They have a 10.1" |
There are some note 10 refurbs on ebay for $389.99 I think. I would take a good look at the Play store and the App store before making a decision. Depending on what you do on the tablet, or what you plan to do to it, I think the iPad is better. I switched from an old iP4 to a Note II, but not getting rid of the iPad even when there are a ton of refurb TF###, Note 10's, and Memopads. |
I am leaning towards the TF700, refurbished. I want the nexus 10 because of the frequent google updates, but It is so hard to find in vancouver with decent price. I can't wait for the G-tab 3 10.1 as it is not release here yet, also i read it is dual core only with intel hybrid processor. I dont know how good it would be compare to budget asus memo smart pad 10.1 |
Dunno why there's so many suggestions for old devices that cost more.. and all the 7/9" suggestions lol. For $299 you can get a brand new Asus memopad 10.. It's the same thing as tf300 but without a dock. It's still relatively new and get's updates. Asus MeMO Pad Smart 10 ME301T, Blue, 16GB at Memory Express |
i bought a Tf700 used, but good condition. Screen is very nice, and the aluminum is nice to touch. But I am starting to feel the lagginess . It happened during installing and downloading multiple apps from the playstore. Also the browser can stutter depending on the webpages. I got it for $325 so i guess i can not complain. |
The stuttering is caused by slow ass NAND memory that Asus used for the TF700 and TF201. As long as you're not doing multiple things at once involving the NAND memory it should be ok. |
