Capcom unveiled quite a bit of information on their big project, Ultra Street Fighter 4, this past weekend at EVO 2013. Along with the name, some balance changes and pricing info, we found out that 5 new characters would be added to the playable roster.

Hugo, Rolento, Poison and Elena will all be included in the update scheduled to drop next year, but Capcom also revealed that we'll be seeing a 5th fighter that is still to be announced. It is said that this fighter has never appeared in a Street Fighter title before.

In an interview with the Jace Hall show, Capcom's Matt Dahlgren discussed some of the previously known details about Ultra Street Fighter 4 but also dropped another interesting bit of info regarding the 5th character. According to Dahlgren, not only has this character never been in a Street Fighter game, but USF4 will also be their fighting game debut.
Ultra Street Fighter IV will bring 4 familiar characters into the mix including Rolento, Elena, Poison and Hugo who originated from the Final Fight series along with a currently unknown fifth. Capcom is keeping quiet about who the last character will be at this point. Dahlgren tells us not only has “this character…never been featured in a Street Fighter game up until now” but that this “will be the first time he (or she) makes their fighting game debut.”

Many have been speculating that the new fighter added to USF4 would be Haggar from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Considering this new character has never been in a fighting game before, that more than likely rules out the mayor of Earth.

Who do you think the 5th character will be in Ultra Street Fighter 4? Let us know in the comments below.

Ultra Street Fighter IV is an upcoming fighting game produced by Capcom, based on and being an update to Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition. In addition to all the previous gameplay balances, there will be new costumes as well as 5 new playable characters:
The four characters from Street Fighter X Tekken that weren't in any previous version of SFIV, Rolento, Poison and Hugo, from Final Fight, and Elena, from Street Fighter III.
Plus a yet unannounced character.
6 new stages from Street Fighter X Tekken and new modes will be added.
The game will be released as an update and standalone game for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in early 2014.[1]

Capcom and their scumbag business model make EA look like saints

Yes... releasing a $15 DLC with new characters and a rebalanced game every couple of years is worse than a $60 roster update.

ae101 07-22-2013 07:33 PM

feels like street fighter alpha all over again with the different release

this is the company that released on-disc DLCs

I'm choked because Capcom said Arcade Ed. would be the final iteration of SFIV...so I went out of my way to buy one and it's still sealed.

I'm OCD so I want my physical game to include all DLCs

Ultra Street Fighter IV gets arcade release date and images of new fighters
Update coming to US and EU sometime after April.

Ultra Street Fighter IV, the update to Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, will be coming to North American and European consoles soon after the game releases to Japanese arcades in April 2014. According to Capcom, the console release will hit before EVO 2014, the fighting game eSports event taking place July 11-13, 2014.

A post on the official Capcom Unity blog says that the longer than expected wait has to deal with integrating the 20,000 plus comments from fans about what to include in the game as well as honing new features such as Red Focus, Ultra Combo Double, and other new modes that will be introduced in the coming months.

Ultra Street Fighter IV will be available as an add-on for current owners of Super Street Fighter IV for $14.99 or as a standalone title for $39.99. Check out a few action shots below of some of the new characters announced for the update earlier this year.

Ultra Street Fighter IV[edit]
A new update called Ultra Street Fighter IV has been announced for release in early 2014 at the 2013 Evolution Championship Series. The game will be released in Japanese arcades on April 2014, followed by a summer 2014 digital release for consoles in Europe and North America.[87] The update will be distributed as both a paid downloadable update and a standalone retail game.[88]
Alongside the usual balance changes, the update is to introduce six new stages, and five new characters: Rolento, Elena, Hugo and Poison (all four of which had been featured in Street Fighter X Tekken), in addition to an unrevealed new character never before seen in the Street Fighter series.[89] It has been revealed that despite some of the new characters having been been recently featured in X Tekken, their gameplay mechanics will be substantially different to go with the game's pace.[87] Based on fan feedback, the update would remove all unblockable moves.[90] Also, it adds a new move called Red Focus, similar to the regular Focus move, but having more invincibility hits.[90] Finally, it adds what's called Double Ultra, which spends the whole Ultra bar to deliver a character's two Ultra moves in quick succession, each dealing a damage slightly lower than that of a regular Ultra.[90] Also new to the game is a "delayed wakeup" mechanic, which allows a knocked down player to slightly lengthen the time before the character gets back up.[91] Before the release of the game, Capcom intends to set up test locations to gather fan feedback to be taken into account for the final product.
