Ubuntu Edge Interesting crowd sourcing project from Ubuntu: Ubuntu Edge | Indiegogo http://assets.ubuntu.com/sites/ubunt...ark/edge-1.jpg http://assets.ubuntu.com/sites/ubunt...ark/edge-3.jpg Spec wise, it looks it would be something that would run Ubuntu in that desktop mode really well. |
they haven't decided on the SoC..how can they expect anyone to pledge over $20? it does look very sexy though...but you can probably get similar performance loading up Ubuntu Touch on your GNex/Nexus4/7/10 then hook it up to your monitor via HML USB |
Tempting, but not tempting enough for $830. |
For one day only, you can contribute $600, and they will send you a phone. Quote:

Damn.. the $600 is already sold out :( |
expecting these things to hit CL and ebay at over 1k a pop. Was interested at 600..now at 830, it doesn't seem to be worth it to me. Posted via RS Mobile |
"Estimated delivery: May 2014" |
Signed up for two. |
I doubt they will be able to raise 32 million Posted via RS Mobile |
New deal 2 for $1400. Get them while there hot. |
I would love to get one, but I don't want to put down money for a phone that I don't get until may. |

Now you can get it for $675 for a single. |
Saw their site. Having worked with electronics and manufacturing I have no faith in their ability to produce a device even remotely comparable to a new iPhone or Galaxy. Building a phone is infinitely more complex than some other well-known crowd funded projects (like the Ouya). Something as simple as the cell antenna is very complex. And reading through their list of specs sounds more like some kid dreaming up his ideal gaming rig than someone giving serious thought to the benefits and drawbacks of hardware choices. RIP Ubuntu Edge, but Ubuntu is still coming to smartphones in 2014 | ExtremeTech RIP Unbuntu Edge, nice try though. |
The goal was just too high. |
would have been one sexy looking phone... maybe they need to team up with a phone maker like Sony or something... |
RIP... Need new phone but I don't like any of the ones currently out. |
