Apply online and make sure your ROE is sent to EI

Umm... I believe it's 2 weeks?

Or it was when I was on EI 3 years ago....

2 week waiting period after you get qualified, so you probably won't see a check for at least 4 weeks, PLUS if you get a severence you will have to wait til the severence period is paid off (eg. 2 week severence means you have to wait another 2 weeks). The employer puts it all on the ROE. If your ROE is not sent electronically you will have to wait for your employer to give it to you, and for you to send it in through snail mail then for them to qualify it.

Get your ROE sent electronically by the employer, its so much easier then you don't have to worry about them getting it late.

Don't remember the exact number, but pretty sure the max was around $1600 or $1800 a month.

How much will I get?

We cannot tell you exactly how much you will receive without having processed your application. However, we can tell you that the basic rate for calculating EI benefits is 55% of your average insurable weekly earnings. As of January 1, 2013, the maximum insurable earnings amount is $47,400. This means that you can receive a maximum amount of $501 per week.

Note

The basic rate and the maximum insurable earnings amounts are reviewed each year. For more information on the most recent rates and amounts, visit the Service Canada Web site.
