Anyone go to outdoor movies at Stanley Park?

Do they check bags for alcohol? Bug spray required?

No one checks your bag but there are families there, so keep that in mind before you start pounding back beers. If you're going to be drinking stay classy and don't ruin other people's experience. In regards to the bug spray, it's better to be safe than sorry, so just bring it.

bug spray definitely helps along with your law chairs, beach mats and a blanket too.

My advice:

Get there early. VERY early.

Movie expected to start at 8:30PM tonight if that's sundown. How early? 6pm? Past weeks have had giant crowds?

6PM should be fine. Just find a spot and hang out till the movie starts I guess.

Not just past weeks, but my experiences from last year as well lol.

Good luck and have fun :)

If you have always had a problem with Mosquitoes. Definitely mandatory bug spray and blankets. Does get chilli there.

Arrived at 6:45PM yesterday. Parking was terrible, had to park at the tennis court lot. Managed to get a decent sitting space in the lawn chair area. There were still many good spots available at that time.

Food choices were medicore and overpriced: Second Beach concession stand, popcorn stands, and food trucks for perogy/cabbage rolls, mini-donuts, and Triple-O's (which doesn't even have Triple-O burgers). Highly suggest bringing your own food.

by 8:45PM the park was PACKED. People were sitting in terrible viewing areas too far away and from bad angles, and it became extremely difficult to walk out to go to the washroom.

Movie started at ~9:20PM. I now know why these events are so popular. Decent projection and sound set up, and fun atmosphere. Would definitely go again for another good movie.

NOTES: Chairs are essential. Everyone I saw sitting on the ground would wiggle uncomfortably every 10 minutes. Does get quite cold, should wear long pants and have sweaters/jackets/blankets. Bug repellent is handy, encountered many mosquitoes.

Aug 22 "The Sandlot" at Creekside Community Centre (Olympic Village)
Aug 23 "Grease" Queens Park Stadium New West
Aug 23 "Jurassic Park" UBC
Aug 27 "Indiana Jones" Stanley Park

It was pretty sick turnout last night for dirty dancing. Showed up at 7:15 and was able to get a decent spot. Hilarious movie, funny how the crowd reacts to all the terrible, terrible lines and 'suspenseful moments'. Definitely bring solo cups, buy a drink from concession and get some ice from them for your mix. and dont smoke.

Don't park your bike at the valet unless you plan on leaving 10-15 mins early, otherwise youre in for along wait.. just bring your own lock if possible.

good thing the one in surrey is not as crowded (enough with the surrey joke ok)...

what i hate the most is that people get there early with blankets and some douche would arrive after the movie has started and go in front of you, blocking everything with their chairs...c'mon common courtesy...
