Phone stolen - Options? DISCLAIMER: YES I KNOW... "TOUGH SHIT". However, being that this is my brother's phone and I know how much he loved it, I'm trying everything in hopes of recovering it... His phone got stolen during Cadets summer camp (for those in the Loop... HMCS Quadra, 2/3rd Intake for Advanced Musician). Stolen by someone who slept in the same barracks as him, while it was charging under his pillow, while he was in the building but just popped into the washroom to wash his hands. I've checked the google device manager, no dice. Tried installing android lost remotely (but found out he has data disabled...in addition to a lock pin)... I have the IMEI, it has been reported to the officers on the base, and he will be filing a police report this week. Since the person who took it is most likely a 15-16 year old, I doubt they will use it in front of their parents, so they will probably sell it. I've checked craigslist, e-mailing pretty much every single person that's selling a N4... I've been checking back at the device manager every day, still nothing. If I tell Rogers I have a police report will they try to hunt down the phone via the IMEI? Will they help me add the IMEI to the blacklist? Options (I know... it's probably none... but it's the least I can do to help the guy while I'm on the other side of the planet).. Thanks guys. :okay: |
It's kinda hard to get stolen phones back to start off with. Rogers won't do anything to hunt it down for you because it's not their responsibility, but they can flag it in the lost phone system so that any sim that enters it will be locked out. If you're trying to retrieve the phone back then that won't be the best bet because you won't be able to track it if everything is blocked. Seeing it as a 15-16 year old then he/she is probably going to sell it locally or try to use it themselves later on. That's all I got from my opinions |
nah rogers won't block or chase imei of a phone that's not missing/stolen from their own inventory.. and especially not a phone that's not even theirs to begin with.. i don't recall rogers ever having the nexus 4 unless you are talking about fido. so sorry to say but you are pretty much out of luck.. your only option is to keep hunting craigslist etc for it... and i mean it is a nexus 4... so the guy stole it can basically use it with whatever carrier they like =\ |
Yeah it was bought direct from Google. Thanks for the replies guys! |
This won't help right now but it would be useful for the future to install cerberus. |
^ that app is insane! not saying i WANT my phone stolen... but i am excited for the outcome! :chop: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...cerberus&hl=en Quote:

woah thats a pretty badass app! |
it has a feature not posted on the list above. if someone is trying to unlock your phone and puts in the wrong password 3x "can change in options" it will automatically take a picture with the front facing camera and email it to you so you know who is trying to unlock your phone! |

thanks again guys... I know at this point it's probably GG, and I've told him to just go back to his Xperia pro for the time being, he'll have to wait for the next contract renewal date to get a new phone I just realized there's not phone security thread floating around (at least none that I know of)... why not make this one? |
SOL cadets camp that's not local meaning the thief can be from any canadian community...good luck checking ALL craigslist/kijiji ads install anti-theft app on newer android phones in the future |
Wellllllllll you could beatdown every kid in that barracks and track him down :troll: |

For my mac products I use Prey which is quite similar and does the same thing. |
Cereberus is android only. The only tracking software available for Mac is really Apple's own. |
Wow, sorry for his loss! Never been to cadets, how many people in the room? Everyone else was sleeping? |
