What i find intriguing is the government is seizing personal property without the right to a fair trial.

-EDIT: One other thing i'd like to point out, i was travelling the Coquihalla today and they had a speed trap set up right after where the old toll booths are, there's traffic in both lanes going around 15kmh over the limit... The front vehicle is a red Corvette, and a black minivan. The minivan is slowly passing the Corvette as you reach the "crest" of the hill where the toll botth was, and as we happen on the speed trap, the vette slows to ~110kmh (the speed limit) however the seemingly oblivious minivan continues to tool on by at the same speed, approx. 125kmh... They basically had two choices, a generic minivan that was actually going faster, or a bright red "sports car". Guess who got the ticket? Yup, the vette.

How come Lomac was able to edit his post without the "this post was edited" non-sense. Just because he is a Mod? that hardly seems fair.

And on that Note I as a driver can be compared to Prost/Senna/Schumacher. So I am at all times capable of much greater speeds thann other drivers.:lawl:

Any post edited within a couple minutes of being posted will show up without an "edited" notation.

When I went up to my cabin 2 months back they had the exact same setup as you climbed up the hills getting into Merrit, it was about 10-25 outside of Merrit and they setup right in the middle
Of a hugeeeee long stretch that your either gaining speed coming up the hill, or gaining going downhill, the corner from both sides is completely blind and as you come around they would
Hit people with the radar and wave them over, there was probably 400-500 feet from either side until you came upon them on the island

I was about 10 over at 120 when I came around and they waived me through they looked like their main goal was simply to tow people because they had 5 tow trucks just sitting idle
And another two loading up cars

This stretch is wayyy easier to speed or pick up speed than that spot on hwy 3 if I'm thinking of the same spot

The most common spots for radar traps on the Coquihalla are just past the Britannia rest stop after the old toll booth location and within 10-15km's on both sides of Merritt. The only times I don't see cops in either of those locations are at night or during the middle of the week. The toll booth location isn't as common but anyone who drives the Coq should know not to speed anywhere near Merritt. There are a couple of other locations they like to camp out but if you're paying attention you're able to spot them a mile or two out as you crest the hills.

Time for a radar detector

Hondaracer 08-21-2013 03:48 PM

^ the spot i'm talking about i'd never seen them before

the spot was brutal because of the situations youre in coming from either side, either accelerating to make it up a long climb or coming down hill

Lomac 08-21-2013 03:52 PM

Yeah, they like to switch their locations around Merritt. After seeing a bunch of cars towed, along with one of my friend's sport bikes impounded, I've learned to leave the car in cruise control once I see the "20km to Merritt" sign. I'd rather wear down my brakes slightly quicker going down those hills than risk getting a speeding ticket. Going up hill they're a little less inclined to pull you over unless you're quite obviously speeding (130+).

dared3vil0 08-21-2013 04:29 PM

Speaking of... There was a MAJOR accident between hope and the snow sheds... Drove by JUST as the first Police car was showing up, a car missed a turn, slid across center divider and got hit head on. I'd wager a bet they didn't survive... Kinda sad.

They're not really "seizing" it... they're just holding onto it for a little while to get the point across.

And this is the thing: IF PEOPLE GOT THE FUCKING POINT IN THE FIRST PLACE, NONE OF THIS WOULD BE NECESSARY.

But they don't; nobody thinks the rules apply to them, so the consequences get escalated again and again until the DO get the point, that the rules are the same for EVERYBODY.

You don't like the way the rules are now, blame the self-centered assholes whose continual disregard of the rules have pushed things to this point.

"Holding onto it for a little while to get the point across"? You're joking, right? What if they held onto people for a little while, you know, just so they got the point across, without a trial or anything.

Oh, "continual disregard of rules"? Do you remember those massive "NO TRESPASSING, NO PUBLIC ACCESS" etc signs at the entrance to Britannia mine a couple months ago? Is that not a disregard for rules aswell? Or is it okay to selectively disregard rules?

I don't see how seizing family vehicles that hit diabolical speeds of up to 120km/h is going to get the point across. If anything it will piss them off even more and you'll see repeat offenders.

What scares me the most about hwy 3 is the logging trucks and big rigs going 30-40km over on the straights and downhills. I was doing 110 on the straight outside Manning resort and had a logging truck go flying by me. I get it might not be their fault entirely on downhill sections, but they don't need to go that fast on the straights. People have a tendency to just pull out of the rest stops without looking.

I both love and loathe that highway.

I will go on record saying I like the police, and almost always support them. But this is fucked

It is not fucked that the idiot decided to excessively speed with his wife and 2 little kids in a pos Echo?

People learn their lessons, sometimes the hard ways.

Nlkko, kind of a dick move to fail people for stating there opinions... Always remember, opinions are like assholes- everyone has one, and most stink.

120 in a 100 or 110 zone, no... that's not called for. 120 in an 80 zone, that's a bit different.

Volvo-brickster 08-21-2013 07:40 PM

Tourists and non BC residents getting nailed, I feel bad.

Any BC resident getting busted is either an idiot or living under a rock.

Driven the Coq many times.

Magic # is 39 km over and no more.

With that I disagree, that guy is going to be very aware of his speed in the future as will others who've heard the tale traveling that same road. I still think the spot is total horseshit though.

Welcome to Switzerland. I love it there, but I will never ever again drive a car through that country. Anyone who thinks Jeremy Clarkson is exaggerating when he says they hate the car there... he's not. Seriously.

about $45 CAD

is it an incremental fine ?

xXSupa 08-21-2013 09:24 PM

Weird how this thread pops up the day I got back from Manning Park.

Some of the downhill parts of Highway 3 are so clear and smooth, you reach excessive speeds without even realizing. I was cruising along with a group of friends on our way back from Manning Park, and next thing you know, we were all over the speed limit. Of course, once I realized, I slowed down. But if I hadn't looked down at the speedometer, I wouldn't think that I was anywhere close to the speed I was travelling at...

Not the same thing. Holding people like that is unconstitutional; impounding a vehicle for breaking a relevant law is not.

What's funny is people getting so bent about vehicles being impounded for excessive speeding and drunk driving, but nobody seems to think it's such a big end-of-the-world deal if your car gets towed for parking somewhere you shouldn't... yet which is really the greater danger? Where's all the righteous indignation when some fully healthy dickhead gets towed for something as minor as parking in a handicap spot?

Wow, that's just... I don't even...

"Fuck this shit, I got a ticket and my car towed for going stupidly fast, so I'm just gonna stick it to the man by going even faster! That'll show'em!"

I believe it's based on both income and the speed you're going.
