2015 Nissan GT-R 0-60mph in 2.0 seconds

2015 Nissan GT-R NISMO To Do 0-60 MPH In 2.0 Seconds?
BY Viknesh Vijayenthiran Jul 31, 2013

The latest iteration of the Nissan GT-R can already hit 60 mph from rest in a blistering 2.7 seconds but that number is expected to drop with the arrival of a more potent GT-R NISMO model currently in the works.

Set for a reveal at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show in November, the GT-R NISMO is tipped to have more than 570 horsepower and be capable of setting a new production car lap record at the Nürburgring.

It is now being reported that this ‘super GT-R’ will also be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.0 seconds. Yes, you read that correctly. Just two seconds!

The information comes from a Nissan insider and was reported by Auto Express. If true, the GT-R NISMO will be the quickest-accelerating production car ever launched. The current holder of that title is the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, which needs 2.5 seconds to reach 60 mph.

Helping with the car’s development is none other than the Williams F1 Team, well, the team’s technology offshoot, Williams Advanced Engineering, to be more accurate. One Williams engineer also revealed to the British magazine that the GT-R still has a lot of tuning potential.

Key to the GT-R NISMO’s performance will be lighter weight and more power. We’d expect some upgrades to the car’s six-speed dual-clutch transmission would also be necessary to deliver such an astonishing acceleration time.
The car should reach showrooms next spring as a 2015 model.

I have no doubt's a new GTR could take the fastest production 0-60 time. But I think gaining .7 seconds might be a bit optimistic.

This will certainly be interesting, and if it does in fact achieve 0-60 in 2 seconds, I will be amazed.

I recall seeing a video on youtube with them explaining if they reduced the weight of the car it would have a slower 0-60 because it needed the weight to put the power to the ground.

Maybe timpo can elaborate on that more

It would need to have a clutch/tranny that can actually hold up when using lauch control in order for the car to actually achive the quoted 0-60 time. difference between the Veyron and the GT-R is that the Veyron was designed and built to do 0-60 in 2.5 seconds every day for the next 20 years. (and about $1.5 million). Judging by Nissan's previous launch control fiasco, I'm skeptical to say the same about the GT-R... How many times will the GT-R be able to do 0-60 in 2.0 seconds? 5 times? 10 times?

How many times can you do 0-60 in 2 seconds before the transmission blows up and Nissan voids your warranty for doing it?

Edit, didn't read the post above. I'm pretty much saying the same thing.

do you expect them to re design the car every 3 years?

look at Gallardo, it's been in production forever and they only changed the headlights/tailights after 5 years.

Who cares if it only does 0-60 in 2 seconds once.

The car still did it and the record would stand. Realistically even at 2.7 seconds, the fact that the car is 1/12th the price (or less) of a veyron its absolutely astonishing.

I'm with Timpo here, the GTR is a very impressive vehicle from a technological and statistical standpoint.

lol.. i think BBMine was trying to say how all smart phones are trying to outgun each other with ever increasing screen size...

same thing for cars... everyone is trying to out gun the other manufacture by having a lower 0-60 times... more so than even top speed, because a 0-60 time can be experienced legally on a highway on ramp... top speed legally? maybe a handful of tracks around the world

I just don't get how its possible. Why do cars of a similar weight all need 1000hp to do it? I don't understand how gearing, traction, and aero can mathematically make it happen. 570hp moving a 3800 lb car to 60mph in 2 seconds just doesn't seem possible, even with all the robot driving double clutch transmission tech in the world.

^ gearing, traction (those stupid grippy tires and their width) and the ATTESA-ETS being tuned for optimal acceleration runs.

I got to drive a pre owned GTR at work... and punched it from a stand still (without the "launch control") the car felt like this: rear wheels have a slight slip and by the time u feel it start to completely slip and spin, the front wheels have a huge front end bite of grip and you'd get hurled into speed. That's the only way I can describe it... the AWD system reacts really quickly

around the city... it drives like a G37.. cept crappier ride quality. Its a bulky car as well.

It is fast... but I find the Exige a more exciting car to drive for the money. GTR feels a bit too refined for me, besides the ride.

Not an expert myself, but I think you are referring to the AWD's torque differential that transfers power between the front and rear and vice versa.

Making AWD vehicles fun to drive (in a sense anyway) in a straight line AND when cornering.
