symptoms of worn engine mounts? What are the signs/symptoms of worn engine mounts? When i turn my vehicle on, it is rattling alot due to timing belt/ tensioner i believe..but once i quickly tap on the gas and let go, I hear and feel a *CLUNK* sound. The sound and feel is sort of like when you put something heavy in a empty box and move, the item will slam against the wall of the box. If I continue to accelerate hard, it feels as if the engine is shaking. Does this mean my mounts are worn? If so how much would it cost and would it be easier to do it myself? I own a 7th gen accord v6! THANKS |
I sometimes get this vibration/rattle during red lights (idle rpms is fine though) -7th gen Accord V6 as well. |

Look at your engine while its idling, if its moving around a lot, they are probably worn. |
the thing is, I don't know ow where to look for the mounts..the feeling I get when acceleration of shaking is like the wheels are getting enough power and vibration of engine trying to carry it up to speed. What should I look for when checking suspension and engine area? Or is a place that can do a complete check of everything for free? Posted via RS Mobile |
something in your suspension could be worn out aswell... best best is to bring it to a shop you trust and have them do an inspection, they will know what to look for and can advise you properly so there will be no guessing... or purchasing wrong parts |

If you have an extra hand, you can also check for sure if its the mounts. Pull the e-brake up. With the engine on, cycle from P>R>N>D, slowly. You should be able to tell of the engine moves/lurches in the bay abnormally. Put the car in drive and while standing on the brake pedal, give it a bit of gas. Again, it shouldn't move a lot. |

one of my friends engine mounts are so worn you can push on one side of the motor and rock the engine quite easily lol. thats a sure sign :lawl: |
ask a friend for help, with engine running, left foot on brake, vehicle in drive, right foot rev the engine a bit. while whom ever is doing that, have someone look at the engine. if its a 7th gen accord v6, it should be auto so you should be able to do this no problem. the engine should not rock forward or backward by much, but if it does, your mounts are worn. 2nd major thing to look for is vibration thru steering wheel at idle. |
My question is what the heck did you do to your car to wore out its motor mounts so soon?! Get underneath the car and inspect the mounts before you start replacing things. !SG's suggestion is good, but for safety please do it outside where there is no walls just in case. Flat surface, nice quiet parking lot. |

well... How long do they typically last for? My car is at 210k kms now. So I need to check the mounts with the advice above. Now how can I check if struts and everything are okay if it could be them that's causing the clunk sounds? Posted via RS Mobile |
when i have the car in reverse it hums a little louder and vibrates the entire car... |
^ that's pretty obvious sign that the engine is sitting on metal then....but could be the transmission side mount too. |
it wasn't really on metal but there was a tear in the rear mount...changed the front too as it was sitting in the same bar... |

sometime just changing it helps...some models are pretty inexpensive to replace...i bought all 4 mounts for my car for a little less than 200 bux. the mechanic mentioned to replace just two of them (front and rear)...75 bux for the labor... |
