Man... I haven't gone salmon fishing in almost 12 years now. Too bad I'm no longer near one of their runs.

Yep, caught a pink the other day out near the T10 marker. Tons of boats in the water. Lost a fighter too, likely a bigger sockeye but may have been a spring as well.. damnit!

Just an FYI in case you didn't know, pinks don't freeze well.. best to eat those within the month.

Squamish river. My buddies and I went there 2 times last month. Caught our limits, which was 2. You need fresh water license and salmon tags. There's wild life officers there that will own you, if you get caught. You need barbless hooks, floaters, red yarn. Also you have to release the fish if you hook it anywhere else other than the mouth. The fight of the salmon is fantastic. My first time catching a salmon was this year, quite the experience.

if you're new and just wanna try locally you can fish most stretches of the tidal fraser with gear.

go for pink spoons, try some crocs or buzz bombs.

anywhere along the dyke between 2 and 3 road should be alright, you can also try from the delta side at deas island.

anyone try ambelside, capilano area yet?

^ i use this app to help me look at the tide tables for the tidal fraser.

there is a marker out in steveston so i've found it to be quite accurate.

happy fishin

Alternatively, if you want to make a nice little mini weekend vacation out of it, you can also head out to places like Campbell River and try to snag some out there. Caught me a few biggies there the last time I went.

Been spoiled by sockeye, Pink is tough to eat. I hope next year is a repeat of the 2010 season.
If it's salt, get the tidal license for 22? + 5 dollar salmon stamp. As T4 stated, you can fish at ambleside, spanish, acadia, wreck, you name it.

T4, I saw some salmon jumping in the waters off of Acadia/Spanish banks, worth a shot to try these areas.

I can the pinks I catch. If you have a pressure cooker, this is probably the best way to prepare pinks.

For anyone who is wanting to fish for pink salmon just head down anywhere on dyke road in Richmond. Anywhere along that stretch of the south arm of Fraser. Bring a light 7 ft rod 6-10 pound rating grab some 1/4 ounce spoons/lure anything pink. Cast and retrieve. Fish 2 hrs before high tide and 2 hrs after. Not gonna guarantee u fish but will certain get one if you put the time and effort. I've been out there almost everyday and been getting into fish.

If/when you catch one, what steps should you take next in order to be humane about it as well as the proper way to store till you get home.

Best way to prep pinks if you have too much is to make fish cake. Take meat and cut into chunks. Then grind the chunks in a food processor. Add flavour, put in bags, and freeze. When you're ready to make fish cakes, shape them into pucks and fry them up. If you like the fish cakes they have at Fujiya, these will be better, 'cause salmon is always tastier than the white fish meat they use.

I like my fish cakes sweet. You can make them salty or even make them spicy.

My father was a commercial fisherman, so that's basically all we ate. When fish stocks were low, the DFO back then didn't have openings, but they did have openings for food fishing. So, yeah, 1001 ways to eat salmon. My mom could publish a cook book to end all cookbooks when it comes to salmon recipes.
