Microsoft office asking for activation key?

this happened to my 3 years old laptop. starting few days ago, when I try to open all my doc/docx file by double click on it, a windows pops up asking for office 2010 activation key prevent me from opening. but if I open word starter from the start menu first and open the doc from there then its fine. any idea how can I fix it? I am using windows 7 and the office 2010 comes with the Dell laptop so it should be legit.

You sure it wasn't supposed to be a trial version?

Word Starter =/= Office 2010.

Chances are the files you're trying to open are attempting to run Microsoft Office, which was probably a trial copy, instead of Word Starter, which is a full running program.

Yeah, programs like Office and Photoshop are a racket. I'm sure you can find various Bays full of Pirates that will offer a much better solution than shelling out $600.

You know you can buy Office Home and Student, as well as Photoshop Elements, for less than $100, right? And both programs in that price range offers more than enough options for the average user.

This seems relevant.

Not necessarily

Who do you think releases these things? A lot of shit gets hidden in them undetected for a long time. Then boom, your system is sending keylogs to russia and china.

I find that the only people who ever complain about getting viruses etc are ones who pirate things like Photoshop and Office and new PC games.

got it solved. right click and choose open with Microsoft office client Virtualization handler and wordpad to get it working again, turns out I never have office 2010 and it got change to default opening prog for some reason. other question, isn't word starter part of office?
