Unexplained Sound from Engine Bay 2009 Honda Fit Drive home, park vehicle in garage. I know I'm down on oil, so I pop the hood to check dipstick. I hear this humming noise. Similar to a defective balast on a flourescent light fixture. I thought nothing of it at first. I top up the oil and went inside. 4 hours later I check up on the car and the noise is still there. There's a deep freezer in the garage right in front of where I park, so I thought it was that. I unplug the freezer and the noise is still there. So, I phone a mechanic buddy of mine and he says it could be the relay to the air compressor clutch. I look for and find the relay........ damn, it's hard to get at. Anyway, I disconnect it. Still noise. I plug relay back in and run the engine. Unplug the relay and it's the right one, as the clutch stops working without the relay. Thinking it might be the alternator, I decide to disconnect the battery ground. The feaking noise is still there. I cannot tell where the noise is coming from, except it is in the area of the alternator and air con compresor. Without power, nothing should be be on, right? I need suggestions............. tia |
