Sub dying?
 

Is it possible for a subwoofer to start losing it's sensitivity to certain frequencies? My sub is starting to miss certain notes in songs, I've noticed. It still punches nice and strong in specific ranges but it's starting to miss others completely, or at least barely make any audible sounds.

I haven't touched any settings in my HU or my amp since the system was installed, btw.

I'd suspect that it would more likely be caused by leaks in the enclosure. Check the joints, vents, and area around the sub. Check the sub for punctures and tears.

Could possibly be caused by changes in resonant frequencies of your vehicle as the temperature drops. That can start causing cancellation at certain frequencies. Was the subwoofer installed within the last several months?

Speakers do change as the mechanical suspension softens, raising the Qms, which alters the qualities of the sub slightly. It shouldn't be a dramatic difference in most cases, although it does depend on the material choices for the suspension parts.

Sub was installed at some point around the beginning of this year. The sub has no visible punctures or tears, and has a grill in front of it anyway to prevent anything sliding in the trunk to hit it. I did also check the box, which is specifically designed for my sub, and didn't notice anything obvious. I'll check again tomorrow, just in case I missed something when I looked earlier today.

The car has gone through some major temperature variations, but only typical Interior heat ( >30* ), and no cold snaps yet.

We can test the sub and the sub frequencies with our RTA. Actually, we have a ton of different testing and tuning equipment at our disposal. Worst case scenario? Warranty bitches!
