I think so as well. There's been lots of bad news with my family lately, so this is a very much needed injection of happiness.

Thanks for posting - it was the right place at the right time. Maddy seems to be getting settled a little better now; she has decided that it is my wife whom she is going to follow everywhere and so now my wife is really liking her.

Maddy is a good dog, acting like a typical old girl with selective hearing and wants to go out to the bathroom a lot, but it's all good. Maddy has a lot of energy for a 14 year old - we were outside all day yesterday in the sun and she was just pacing all over the place - all day. My younger doberman would come out and just lay in the sun - but Maddy was full-on marching to her own beat.

We took Maddy to the vet today, she needed her anal glands cleaned (was doing the ass drag on the ground) and we got her some deworming medicine just in case. My wife said Maddy didn't like her too much coming outta the vet. lol.

Our neighbour's dog got loose today, so we had a mini doggy day care going on today. Typical Aussie, Maddy was herding little Waldo into all the corners of the rooms (which he didn't like too much).

I might have helped but I'm kind of maxed out on dogs :lol

Guess I should frequent this sub-forum more often

This is the type of stuff that makes RS a true community.
Would not find this on craigslist or whatever else.

Loved reading this thread.

I'm hopeful that you get to keep her, for good.

I don't think I could ever move away, and not be able to bring my pet(s) with me. It just wouldn't be an option. They either come with, or I stay put.

But regardless, she has a good home, has another dog to keep her company, and a busy family to keep her active.

Revscene almost needs to do what 'The Chive' does, when it comes to donating for good causes. Such as helping out in cases such as these. Maybe some can't offer a new home, but perhaps a donation in another form? Like cash to put towards vet bills (god forbid) meds, or even food?

Little update - Maddy has made herself right at home here and my whole family loves having her around. We take lots of pictures and share them with her owner overseas, so everyone is smiling cuz of this ol gal. I kind of messed up her name when I first got her, thought it was Madeline (it turns out it's Maddison), so we call her Madeline now but I don't think she hears us anyways. ;)

As you can tell, Maddy is quite active for a 14 year old but she is also quite happy to be running as fast as she can. She follow my wife around like a second shadow and literally gives zero interest in anything I say, though she expects a good pet and scratch if/when she does come over to see me. Oh, to have the life of a dog.

For those that are friends with the owner, it is with a heavy heart that I have to report that Miss Maddy left our family today. Our family is devastated, as can be expected. She was a bundle of love to my wife and kids - me - she liked me if I had food and when no one was around she would get some pets.

Maddy had grace and she lived a full 16 years making her own footsteps and never following another's. She will be missed dearly and I look forward to the day we meet again, in peace.

Thank you for giving her such a good home to live the end of her life. People like you are one in a million.

SkinnyPupp 08-22-2015 02:59 AM

As sad as it is to see her go, this is such an awesome thing to see, a dog lover stepping up and giving a dog such an enjoyable last few years of life when it could have been SO bad after being abandoned... Right on Zedbra.

stewie 08-23-2015 11:03 AM

Thank you so much Zedbra for helping me find a home for maddy!!!

When I originally helped Alicia look for someone to watch maddy while she went to Ireland, I'd no idea it would've turned into an adoption with Alicia deciding to stay there :(

You gave maddy a great last few years I can see, and I cant thank you enough for helping out a complete stranger.

Thanks Zedbra!!!!!!!!!!! You're amazing!!!!!

Zedbra 08-23-2015 02:03 PM

It was our pleasure, stewie. She sure loved my boys and she let them take her all through the house with them, would go rub her head against theirs, she was amazing with them and my wife.

It is all still so strange to not see her here, have her eagerly waiting for you to get up or come home. We needed to get out of the house today and just get our minds distracted, so I took the boys to Whistler. We come home and my littlest asks if Maddy will be back home because he wants to play with her. :( My eldest understands death but my youngest is still learning.
