Local Scion TC Owner Blows Up Motor

Here is an interesting story I was passed along.

A local 2014 Scion TC owner brough his car into a dealer and had some noise issues.

He had modified the car and in doing so had the exhaust hitting the PS rack throwing a knock sensor code due to the vibrations. This also caused a very bad vibration in the car.
Comes back a week later and 5 rockers are clean off the valves.

He seems to think that because is floated the valves, most likely due to a redline miss shift, that it is somehow the dealers fault.
To make things worse he decided to take the car apart himself, clearing codes in the process and then expects to have the car worked on by Toyota under warantee.......

There are a load of videos on YouTube of this guy and his cars.

Also interesting to mention, he had kocked the rockers off which also knocked small caps off that the rockers sit on. He proceded to start the car with small bits of loose metal all through the motor.....darwin award?

Check out him picking up the car and even reving it after being told he no longer has warantee. He also has a very interesting view on the whole issue, not bothering to mention his clearing of codes, not letting Toyota know he floated the valves and damaged the motor in hopes that they would fix his mistake.

Lesson here, dont be stupid with your car and then try to get a dealer to take the fall for you.

Lesson here, keep all your stock parts when modifying a new vehicle.

He had all his stock parts, issue is that he drove the stink out of the car. Probably miss shifted at redline (going from 4th to 5th but grabbed 3rd by mistake) floated the valves and then lied about it.

The wife and I have seen this guy doing triple didgits down a single lane residential street as well.....guess karma finally cought up.

In California they're more common and I remember reading on forums that it's like the second coming of honda civics with loud mufflers in the early 2000s. 2 days ago I had a guy in a cement tC sporadically passing me in rush hour on Knight like a "yo boy". Anywho I agree with the karma thing.

Why are TC's not as common in Canada, cause your honestly not kidding, in Cali they are all over the place. More common that accords and civics now...

They spend a lot more money on marketing in the states. They do cool concerts and sponsor more stuff (hello Regency Scion. I have driven a Scion yet!).

They've also been around a lot longer and the first gen tC has a niche on its own. That model was never sold in Canada. If you jump on most tC forum 85% of the posts are about the first gen. I always considered it the replacement for the Celica which were common here. With the FR-S they now look like the dumb half-brother car of the family.

The TC is a great little car, completely different car from an FRS tho. Sports car VS Sporty Econo car.

Needless to say, the stock valve springs are not stiff enough for 14000rpm plus shifts...

Lesson here is to not record in Portrait mode!!!
