Battery Load Tester

Looking for one that'll do both 6 volt and 12 volt batteries.

Any recommendations?

Hard to take an electric golf cart, boat, or full size dragster to Interstate.........

Anyway, back to the question.

Canadian Tire or Princess Auto sell the 6/12 volt battery load testers for about $25. I have the $450 conductance tester that I used for a while but I find the cheaper testers work just as well. That's all I use now to test the deep cycle batteries, but unfortunately they are really designed to just check regular batteries.

Yeah, I looked at those before. I remember the box stating the 6 volt part was just for voltage.

However, it looks like Princess Auto has a Schumacher battery load tester on sale starting next week and reading the manual (pdf) on-line, it looks like it tests for loads on 6 volt batteries.

The cheapie that I bought does load down the 6 volt deep cycle batteries but I did pay a little bit more for it. It's not all that accurate since the 6 volt voltage reading only uses half of the guage and its hard to read.

When you buy your load tester, make sure it works. I bought one of those carbon pile ones with a big knob on the front of it a while back from PA and just put it away in my garage, still in the box. Tried to use it a year ago and it didn't work, no warranty either since it was bought so long ago and no receipt. Guess I should take it apart to see what wasn't connected inside.:okay:

What's this about a full size dragster....................?

A friend of mine has a rail car that does 7 seconds in 1/4 mile. It came to mind when it was suggested that I take the battery to Interstate. Not easy to remove. I'll check the Schumacher at PA. See if the cables and connections are sturdy. I did go to to Canadian Tire this evening and saw theirs. Not bad. I guess they're all the same. Carbon pile of crap, LOL. Toggle switch vs rocker switch... hmmmm. I was told these things smoke like hell at first. Not the first time I've seen stuff from PA snap, crackle and pop.

Even the good VAT40's smoke. That lets you know there working :)

Yeah, it's due to oils and shit that are on surface of thingofmabob inside that heats up.
