Hey OP, theoretically speaking here. What happens if you don't get into beedie/sauder (Touch on wood that you do get in)? Any back up plans?

ilovebacon 11-07-2013 02:54 AM

From Beedie to Kwantlen? lol
Why not just get into SFU and then apply to Beedie. If all else fails you'll be an econ major who didn't go to Kwantlen

Recon604 11-07-2013 11:27 AM

^do you even know what your talking about?

I dont see why not. Kwantlen is a great school, plus the tuition is cheaper. Kwantlen's School of Business is comparable with SFU's.

So OP, that is a good alternative if you dont get into SFU.

Selanne_200 11-07-2013 11:29 AM

Op, This is your third post all about related questions/issues/concerns AND we're not even into the new year yet. Why are you worrying so much at this point? If this is how you're going to handle everything, I suggest you might as well quit thinking about going into business school now because even if you get in, good luck handling all the stress while you're in school and especially when you graduate. I don't want to see 12308517 posts about whether or not you'll get a job

I'll agree with you that it's a good alternative if op doesn't get into SFU, but to compare SFU's business school to Kwantlen business school is a little out of line. There is a reason why competition is higher for SFU/UBC business, and of course that's partly due to their reputation. I've recently talked to a recruiter from KPMG and they basically wouldn't even consider someone from one of the "colleges" unless they are EXCEPTIOINAL during different events.
Also, outside of BC, chances are people wouldn't even know anything about kwantlen business and differences between kwantlen, langara, or douglas for all intend and purposes.

And then the next one will be:

"I wasn't accepted, what should I do now?" :fullofwin:

It's November and you're in senior year? Shouldn't you be partying and having fun? lol
(I know I was)

..If you want to see the bright? side of things; at the end of the day you're just working towards a piece of paper that says you can do something.

Splmash 11-07-2013 06:50 PM

I attend and work for Beedie. The Associate Dean is my boss. I can get you a letter of reference that'll pretty much guarantee you in.

Spoiler!

Spoiler!

No, that's not a great idea. Go get a degree that you like and don't end up staying in another field for the sake of staying in a more prestigious school. I'm pretty sure a business degree at Kwantlen is more useful than an Econ degree at SFU (This was the reason why I left SFU). You would have to pursue a higher level of education after you get your Bachelors in Econ or you'll end up like alot of people with Econ degrees; jobless.

Purely 11-07-2013 09:33 PM

^ I don't think Econ degrees are as useless as you say it is though.

RevYouUp 11-07-2013 09:36 PM

It's not useless, sorry for my wording. I mean alot of the theory is really useful and applies to real life situations. It's just harder to get jobs with just a Bachelors in it.

Recon604 11-07-2013 09:43 PM

do what you like, it is important. I wasnt accepted into my first choice at UBC. I had to please my parents, they made me go into my second choice. I ended up hating what I was studying. So my grades plummeted and I felt like shit.

Truth

For everyone saying that I shouldnt get an arts degree in economics, I can still become a CPA (my main goal) with an arts degree. Also I like economics

Be cause id prefer a business degree and im worried that I wont get in to SFU business and I REALLY dont want to go to kwantlen...the thing im most worried about is that I wont get into either SFU business or arts...

Just curious... what made you choose Kwantlen aside from Langara or BCIT?

Also.. it doesn't matter how many threads you make, the answers will still be the same. With all this worrying.. do you even have time to study or go out with friends?

Why do you only post from mobile?

yes you can become a cpa with an arts economic degree but it might be more difficult for you to land an articling position when you're going up against accounting grads

I chose kwantlen because its 10 minutes from my house and it will be easier to transfer from their instead of from BCIT or lanagara (they take 03 of your gpa). Yes I do have time to study, i dont go out with friends too much. I post from mobile because I dont use my computer much and my phone is in my pocket so its convienent.
