So for all RS members unaware of these scams, pls do not give money or donate unless it is really legit and you feel like giving. A lot of these ppl will hassle you and will go as far as asking you if you have a debit card and will ask you to withdraw at an ATM while they wait. If you come across one of them, dont make eye contact or just lay down a firm "NO" and walk away. Do not even pay attention to anything they say after because it will just ruin your day and possibly get you in a verbal arguement.
I remember being approached by 2 filipino girls in Robson and asked for donation for a charity i never heard of. I declined and walked away. while i was walking away they yelled at me stating that im an embarrassment for being their own kind but not wanting to help out. I just brushed it off and kept going.

10,000 people are feared dead!

The Pentagon has announced it is providing the Philippines with naval and aviation resources to help with humanitarian relief efforts.

In a statement, Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel said the US was delivering helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft and search and rescue equipment after a request from the Philippines government.

Capt John Andrews, deputy director general of the Civil Aviation Authority in the Philippines, told the BBC he had flown over the worst affected areas and seen "utter destruction".

"I have never seen such damage in my life," he said.

"It would probably be similar to having a tornado run over a big open space. At the airport, there's actually no structure left standing except the walls."

The typhoon is now bearing down on Vietnam, where tens of thousands are being evacuated.

The BBC Weather Centre says the typhoon is expected to make landfall south of Hanoi on Monday afternoon local time (between 03:00 and 09:00 GMT), although it will have decreased markedly in strength.

You see this every time a big storm hits the Philippines. People with rich families in big houses in the city go "oh it was no big deal" completely ignoring the millions who live in homes that can't stand up to a storm like this. I didn't want to comment, but with a number like 10K.. holy shit

We're even feeling it a bit here, it's really windy and rainy which is totally out of the norm for this time of year.

Im quite shocked by that number as well especially the point that that number is only an estimate for the main city that was hit and not any of the villages or islands

Extremely sad to hear. My dad was born in Tacloban City so it kind of hits close to home. We lived about a few hours away from Tacloban and we'd make several trips there a year to see our relatives. So far, haven't heard any worse news regarding our relatives or old family friends that may have been affected.
