Importing Firefox Profile

Yeah yeah, I'm still using Firefox. Shut it. :p

Anyway, I reformatted my laptop last night and am having issues with importing my FF profile. I know which ones store information that I need (passwords, bookmarks, etc) and dropped them into my new profile folder (appdata/local/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/randomstringofletters) but FF isn't picking them up. The passwords I'm not too terribly worried about but I had a bunch of bookmarks that I need for work and will go crazy if I have to spend a week trying to search them all out again.

Thoughts? I tried going through the Mozilla help page but there wasn't much information I found helpful.

I see you reformatted your hard drive so you would have lost your last configuration. Do you have firefox with bookmarks configured on another machine? I ask because FF has a handy sync option that pretty much saves everything (passwords, bookmarks, history) into the cloud and lets you deploy it on multiple devices.

If not, I won't be much help. I'm on a mac and I see my bookmarks stored in a .json file. You may be able to import this file inside the 'Show All Bookmarks' window and click Restore > From File. If not you can open it with notepad and find your URLs in the messy code.

^ I use the sync'd bookmarks for FF on my phone/laptop because I would not have a clue how to save and transfer them after a format.

I usually just go the lazy route and take the entire contents of the original folder located in:
c: \users\yourusername\appdata\roaming\mozilla\firefo x\profiles\something.default

and copy it to:
c: \users\newusername\appdata\roaming\mozilla\firefox \profiles\somethingelse.default.

The bookmarks, history, etc are in the file "places.sqlite".

If you copied the file over while Firefox was open you willrevert back to the old bookmarks when you close Firefox.

What's wrong with using FF? Still my browser of choice.

(Worked for me.)
