Midas Brake Pads & Rotors

Hey guys,
got my snow tires swapped at Midas, and they mentioned that I need to change my brake pads & rotors.
U guys know if their products are good/comparable to OEM?

Doesn't Canadian tire have brake pads + disc specials around this time? I've heard they're actually better than OEM... Srs.

depends on what brands they use OP -- will vary from place to place.

DIY!!! Brake jobs are a friggen rip off IMO
It literally takes me ~15 minutes per corner to do, and do properly.

The only way I would take my car in for a brake job is if I need the rotors re-surfaced. Otherwise just replacing pads is so easy, and if you are putting on new rotors its pretty simple too...

Op, it depends what you drive. If it's just a winter beater, i vote DIY and crappy tire/midas, but if it's an 2012 M3 for example, don't cheap out.

Ive had a few customers over the years come in for a second opinion on when these kinds of shops have told them they need brakes. Only once did they actually need them right away. Every other time they were at a minimum of %30. Moral of the story when they tell you they need replacing ask them to show you.

thx guys, I'll get a 2nd opinion (any suggestions :)
in June, when I did service at the dealer it was at 6mm remaining.
5 months and 5mm gone seems a bit much.

lol If you're DIY'ing brake pads, it's typically only two more bolts to undo before you're able to put in new rotors. Honestly, brakes are probably the easiest repair job you can do on a car (apart from oil changes).

To be fair, it's not inconceivable that one of your calipers might be slightly stuck and is constantly dragging the pads against the rotor. If one corner is low and needs replacing, you're best resetting and just doing all four corners at the same time.

Doing brakes is easy, but not everyone is a mechanic and has all the tools needed to do the job easily. And not everyone has a garage to work in.

But yeah OP, get 2nd opinion, I notice alot of mechanics tend to tell people to change stuff earlier than needed to make a sale. I generally wait to hear the brakes squealer's on the pads to bring it in and have them changed.

yeah, any RS sponsors here that can assist with a 2nd opinion, if not i might have to head to kal tire

What kind of wheels do you have?

I ask because with some wheels the pad is easily visible, and you can see for yourself, or at least take a picture.

As an employee of a midas auto shop, do you mind me asking which midas?
