Rear reminds me of the new GS.

Interior has some resemblance as well.

It went from looking like a ghetto version of the Mercedes S-class to a ghetto version of the BMW 7-series.

Szeto 11-27-2013 11:58 AM

the new Genesis does look amazing. I wonder if Equus (priced around 65k) is gonna be even better since it's quite a jump from the base Genesis sedan (40k)

!LittleDragon 11-27-2013 12:59 PM

Was gonna trade in my 2.0T Sonata for an R-spec but I waited to see what the final remodel would look like.... glad I waited, would've been stuck with a fast Hyundai that looked like an old Merc.

Not a bad looking car but it's a mix and match of a lot of different cars.

Destroys the competition in terms of design.

but its still a hyundai.

and a tsx is still an accord :troll:

radioman 11-27-2013 03:25 PM

Can't believe that they copied the rectangle 4 corner wheel layout that Ford introduced with the Model T.

Next thing you'll be telling me there an engine in the car too! Unbelievable.

AW607 11-27-2013 03:36 PM

lol all these "erhmagerd it looks like x and y with z" :seriously:

It's a huge step up from the last generation's Genesis in terms of design. It's quite a bit more eye-catching than the last one, which was a bit bland.. I think within a few more years, Hyundai will be quite a competitor with the other big European luxury brands with all the features and the bells and whistles it packs (and the pricing to top it off)... Once people get over the "It's still a Hyundai" mindset

Didn't the Genesis sedan replace the Equus?

Car looks good. Has Lexus GS styling cues among others. I deal with a lot of Hyundai products and while their vehicle design looks great the fit and finish on their products is still meh. Better than previous gens but nowhere near the Japanese or Euro automakers.

radioman 12-13-2013 06:56 PM

Think of the genesis as the 5 series and the equus as 7.

Equus should receive some changes in the near future.

rcoccultwar 12-13-2013 11:21 PM

Will be neat to see how Hyundai Think Tank evolves over time.

Timpo 12-13-2013 11:36 PM

But it still is a Hyundai. They definitely need to make a separate brand.

Let's face it, when you hear a word Hyundai, you don't think about luxury or high performance cars do you?

radioman 12-14-2013 08:18 AM

I don't think that when I hear Nissan either. Just saying :)

I know your point, but the problem with Hyundai is, they're know for cheap cars and have no heritage for performance cars or luxury cars.

For example Nissan, they have had a long history for Skyline, Fairlady, Silvia, 180SX, etc.
They have also competed in LeMans 24, Super GT, Indy 500, etc.

Same as GM, they make cheap cars, but also have Corvette and Camaro at a same time. Same as Dodge Viper and Ford GT.

radioman 12-14-2013 09:46 AM

I also understand your point. I knew you would mention nissan' history.

The problem is hyundai has slowly improved their quality and cars and only people who have really owned their cars in the past 5 years or so understand its not the same as the 90's.

It's like when you've got a fat coworker. He's lost 50lbs in one year but you don't notice it because you see him every day. He had a cousin that lived far away and hadn't seen him for a long time and commented that he looks amazing with the weight lose.

The stigma is a hard one to get rid of.

EDIT: Timpo: One day RS will put a hyundai up on their banner and get rid of your GTR :troll:

Here's some trim package info. I heard the pricing might be adjusted up.

$43k 3.8 Premium (base model) Standard Features

$48k 3.8 Luxury (Premium plus)

$53k 3.8 Technology (Luxury plus)

$62k 5.0 Ultimate (Technology plus)

bomiheko 04-10-2014 04:54 PM

Hyundai is trying to become upscale. This is why they didn't use a different brand name. They want to use the Kia name as the cheaper brand.

This new Genesis sedan really looks like a 7 series. The interior and the headlights.

Roofline reminds me of the Infiniti M

People use to say the same thing with the Japanese brands. Datsun/Nissan and Honda were not a brand everyone loved. But they were cheap, and they started to prove themselves as high quality vehicles. I'd say Hyundai is well on their way.

They're pretty cheesey but I get a kick out of these ads. The tech has been there for years but its nice to see it highlighted in different ways.
