The process of ordering a set of rims from a US shop?? There is a shop that has 10 sets of an exclusive color on some 18's. I want to order them, is it straight forward? i don't have to worry about getting ripped off or anything?? i've never ordered anything from the states. I was quoted by the shop it would be about $200 freight shipping to Canada, that sound right? Also i have family in Seattle, would i t be better if i had in sent to them and then just pick it up? Or would i have to pay extra duty tax ?? Thanks. |
1) COST OF PRODUCT 2) SHIPPING COST 3) TAXES ON PRODUCT (DUTY,GST) 4) BROKERAGE FEE (IF GOING THRU A SHIPPING COMPANY) |
If it is shipped into Canada, you will pay customs/duty/taxes/whatever regardless, and it will probably arrive slower, and you will pay more for shipping. If you ship them to point roberts, USA/Blaine USA/Seattle (family) it will almost for sure be cheaper. Blaine/Point Roberts have package receiving companies specifically for this. If you ship to family you avoid the package receiving cost (for wheels, probably $15-$20). Also, if you go across the border and pick it up yourself, you may or may not be taxed, whereas you certainly will if you ship direct to your house. Also, if you are taxed, it's usually just sales tax (12%) on the purchase price (not on the cost of shipping), whereas if you have it shipped here you will pay tax, and a brokerage fee, and possibly duty |
Ship it to point roberts. DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER UPS if you are shipping it to your canadian address unless you want to pay 64000 dollars in brokerage fees and shipping. |

If you phone UPS prior to it arriving and let them know you want to self clear, you can go to YVR and do it yourself and save yourself big bucks. You still have to pay the taxes and such but I'm just clarifying that shipping UPS to Canada isn't always that bad given you do the research prior. |

I think UPS Express (air) doesn't have brokerage fees, but then you're probably paying a stupid amount of $$$ for shipping alone. :fuckthatshit: |
I just came back from Point Roberts this morning with a set of wheels. Super easy and the only way to go. You only pay 12% tax on the declared value and a small fee for the receiving place in PR. So 12% on $1,000 and 20 bucks to the PO Box place. There are ways around declared value. PM me for any further info. DO NOT order from the US and have it shipped to Canada unless you enjoy fees that are similar to receiving anal sex with sand and salt as lube. |
LOL^ What wheels did you get? |
Just a set of 16x7 Spoon SW388's. They have been discontinued for quite a while and I've always wanted a set. I'm a bit(a lot) of a wheel collector. |
