stupid speed related question extremely stupid question to ask just to verify an answer so my friend will shut up and quit telling people the wrong shit(99.99999% its wrong) which will eventually end up getting them in trouble. hes telling people he knows every law etc since he has a degree in crim from years ago which hes never used in any way shape or form since hes a trades worker now. but, hes telling everyone that if a speed sign doesn't state "kmph" on the sign, then that street has no unit of speed, so you can travel going in mph and if pulled over you can say you didn't know since it didn't specify kmph.... example, on Kensington st in Burnaby, theres a white regulatory speed sign that just says "maximum 50", and he continues to tell people you can drive 50mph on that street. picture of street sign I tried looking in the mva, but all I found was it saying in chapter 318, "Obedience to speed signs 140 Where traffic control devices as indicated in section 138 or 139 are erected or placed on the highway, a person must not drive or operate a vehicle at a greater rate of speed than, or in a manner different from, that indicated on the signs." Zulu? |
do the world a favor and punch your friend in the face for us. |

but he just sits there saying nope..."theres no measurement of speed on it. you can travel in MPH and not get in trouble"... retarded person, yes. hes stubborn as fuck to not understand that he is wrong, and he keeps telling it to people when im with him driving, and it always turns into me and him arguing and calling each other names etc. I cant wait for him to get a ticket, try to dispute it in court, and have them laugh at him. |
so you're frd would pay in Japanese Yen when he dines in a restaurant that only has a number as the price? |

He's just playing with the loophole. If you want to even call it that. I mean...good luck telling the judge and getting away with it, plus the amount of work/effort needed to actually fight these kind of stuff, you'd need to really know every law or have a team of fucking lawyers that you can afford to hire and fight this. At the end of the day, you know full well what the sign meant and we are in Canada. |
Why stop there? I mean he could say he thought the sign was in m/s. Then he can go like 110km/h in a school zone... Your friend is being a complete asshat, if anyone actually believes him when he says stupid shit like that, there is nothing you can do about it. Just leave him be, he will eventually get caught speeding and hopefully the courts throw the proverbial book at him. |
Your friend also believes that if you overpay your traffic fines with a cheque the ticket will not be processed...I bet. Your friend should do a bit more research...for instance, the speed in a municipality is deemed to be 50 kmh, unless otherwise posted, and that does not have to be posted at all. Is he one of those 'freeman" types of idiots or is he just delusional? If he really has a law degree it's very fortunate for himself and any clients he may have had, that he never actualy practiced law. His degree in criminology is probably the same as mine. Criminology does not teach you law, it teaches you criminology. Speeding is an absoloute liability statute...you must not exceed the mandated limits and it's up to you to not speed....30 mph or 50kmh are essentially the same velocity. Up to you drivers to not go any faster. |
how did he manage to graduate .... |
^ what a disgrace to all the criminology graduates... |
Funny though.. in university science classes they would ding me for having the wrong sig figs and having no unit of measurements. I guess it doesn't matter in the real world. |
Yeah, tell your friend that he's got a CRIM diploma or whatever it is. Not a law degree. The intent of the law is the max speed is in Kmh, and that our country uses metric. The MPH argument wouldn't hold up even if he took it to court. |
Law in B.C. is all roads are 50 KPH unless otherwise posted. That is guaranteed. |

Just another case of somebody being educated, but also being stupid? They are NOT the same thing. |

Radar is only accurate to plus/minus 1 KMH....in full numbers. So there !!!:ilied: You have heard the saying....'close enough for Govt work' have you not? ( Does that sound too "Yoda" ?) |
Actually the acceptable operational range for radar is 2km/h iirc. :) Spoiler! |
