Mobile Day Plan in the States?

Hi Guys I am making a 7 days trip to LA. I need a phone for work related.

However, I don't want to get roaming charge.

I heard T-Mobile, has a $4 day plan with unlimited calling and data??? Pretty much just pop in their sim card.

I have an iphone 4 locked to fido and my coworker has unlocked samsung galaxy s2

Has anyone heard about this day plan and will it work with our mobile phone?

Thanks

In order to use the T-Mobile sim card you will need to unlock your phone.

Your coworker with the unlocked S2 will work fine with the sim

Search is your friend... There are over 4 threads now dedicated to this topic and only over the last 2 months. :) lots of information to be found.

Work related.. They should be paying for your line lol unless it's your own work.

There's also Roam Mobility.

Roam Mobility
$4 a day Unlimited calling/Text + back to Canada and 2GB unthrottled data

T-Mobile, same deal, but doesn't include back to Canada and 200mb before throttling

if you go the Roam mobility route, give us a review as to how it worked for you.

For anyone who's on T-Mo though, go into one of their shops or order online a sim for your tablet.

If you have a PAYG account with them, you get the 200MB free for the life of your PAYG account on that second sim. I have this and I rarely switch to the $3/day plan for data anymore. 200MB/mth is more than enough for light browsing when I'm down there. T-Mo's LTE works wonder on my iPad Mini 2.

I wouldn't really recoomend Roam Mobility after using it in October...

Calls/texts were ok, but if you needed to rely on data usage like I did--it didn't work most of the time.

I was in Downtown Seattle and WaMu theater most of the time if that helps

this seems like good info, should a thread on this topic be stickied?

Yeah I think it should as a lot of us are going down to the states and are looking for this info. I'll pass the info along to the mod in charge of this section.

I use T-Mobile's service when I'm in LA (and this is quite frequent.)

No problems. Service overall is better than AT&T's.

Used the $3 T-Mobile Pay by the day plan when I was in Vegas, had no issues at all. The 3G internet was even faster then the hotel's WIFI.

use a unlocked aws phone to get best speeds with tmobile or else you might be stuck on 2g on less populated areas.

Can you tether with one of these plans?

In my experience with T-Mobile's prepaid plan, no.

T-Mobile offers 200mb free data/month, don't know if this is for Canadians though.

T-Mobile offering 200MB of free LTE for any tablet with no strings attached | Android Central

But if you need voice too then Roam mobility is a good choice. I use it all the time.

Shouldn't matter Canadian or not. It should be based on as long as you have a T-Mobile sim card and connected to their network.

so is the T-mobile $2/$3 plan unlimited data? (don't care that first 200mb is at 4G speed)

T-mobile seems like a good deal if it is unlimited..

Yup. You will find 2G super slow though, for whatsapp/msging it is okay.

The free 200mb from tmo is actually tethering enabled. At least it works for me.

Here is a review:

Using Roam Mobility on an iPhone 5 in the USA [Review] | iPhone in Canada Blog - Canada's #1 iPhone Resource

This was a reminder as to why I would choose Roam mobility. That being that I can call or text back to Canada as part of the $3/day package.

Tethering didn't work for me on a 5S. Decent experience though, even though after the first 200mb its slow as shit for any sites with pics. Revscene worked though

For T-Mo's prepaid $3/day plan, I have tethered with all my Nexus phones without any issues over the years, I think for 200MB they don't bother trying to lock it down

I've used Roam as well and they use the same network as T-Mo so it would get similar network performance and having an unlocked AWS phone for both is recommended ...

You may need to edit the "Internet Sharing" APN section as well to get this to work
