Buy it nice or buy it twice.

Thats the real problem with painting a car though, you might buy it nice and still have to buy it twice. Quality autobody is an art form, and not everyone who does it is an artist.

A good quality paint job with good prep and finishing will only improve the value of your car but not enough to get a return on such an investment unless you have a classic of some sort that needs such a finishing touch.
Cheap out and you've ruined the car. I've seen it too many times.

I personally would never buy a repainted car. Unless it was a classic resto or something like that. For an every day car, no way, and ESPECIALLY if it was a colour change.

If you color change the car then you are looking at a big drop in re-sale value unless you are stripping the whole car down and doing a resto job on it I would not.

I was considering this myself with the Supra but it will be getting sprayed in silver just like it is now.
And yes, a good paint job is going to cost you 4-6K if you want it to be smooth like glass. Don't skimp on things like paint because it will come back to haunt you later on.

true, depending on the degree of difficulty because it's all labor, and lots of it. eg. a flat panel van is easier to do than an geometric nightmare like an aventador. unfortunately for many it means going with cheaper vinyl and and a lot of DIY work. i've seen some people very proud that they wrapped their car by themself and saved $$$ but then you go and see their work and it's a horror show.... creases in the vinyl, razor blade cut lines in the paint, poor prep work resulting in crap trapped under the vinyl, and so on :(

for many of us, including myself in the past, could only afford an older car and in many cases there are few choices that have not had a respray of some kind in the last 5-10 years :(

as for a color change, maybe with a car that was originally black? i can't stand seeing something like a red car and then opening the hood and seeing the engine bay is still the original green for example... meh.

I painted my old Nissan 200sx with primer spraybomb (camouflage colours). Didn't cost much more than your foreman.

Funny enough, it's probably the best looking car I've ever owned. :fullofwin:

Best looking, not best quality. :p

Forest camo, giant number "06" sprayed white on the doors and a USSR hammer and sickle painted in red on the hood.

Ooooohhhhhh yeah!
