Following a Ambulance from behind , illegal or not illegal?

Hey guys, so me and my friend were having a discussion about if you are following an ambulance from behind is that considered illegal or not?, Not like tail gating but like just following it casually behind. Just wondering what are your thoughts on it. Thanks!.

100% agree. Definitely keep up with them (even if it means speeding) otherwise you might put yourself in a dangerous position when other drivers try to merge back into their lanes.

How about a fire truck, is there anything in the motor vehicle act that says you can not drive behind an emergency vehicle while it is going through traffic and the lights are on and your stuck in traffic and you follow the fire truck or any other emergency vehicle to the street you need to turn off from

I assume you mean driving behind it while it has its lights and siren on while it drives to or from an emergency. In that case if you want to drive behind it you can. However, if it says stay back "X" amount of meters you will have to abide by that rule as you would be subject to a ticket if a police officer is having a bad day or needs to fill a quota. Second, in this scenario the ambulance would be going above the posted speed limit so if your keeping up you are speeding and again subject to a fine. Can you do it, yes. Should you... probably not, but we have all done it at one time or another.

You'll get more points if you stop the ambulance and steal it. You can take their money too.

its not illegal to follow the police car after it but youll probably be breaking a bunch of other laws in order to keep up. for fire trucks its 150 m behind.
But you might be eligible for 'drive without consideration' and other grey area tickets though.

I think so many people in the Lower Mainland should redo it. Is it just me or do people find nowadays, that cars don't really pull over anymore for sirens unless it's almost absolutely at the last moment practically right behind them; if at all.

RoadSense Tip: Emergency Vehicles

LOL by the time you can pull out.. the ambulance will be far ahead.. and then theres other cars in front of you.. so your speeding to catch up to it.. does that seem logical to you?

If you need to discuss this AFTER you have passed your driving test.. I can only imagine what kind of driver you are...

I'm not surprised someone would be asking this question, considering how a lot of drivers in East Asian countries have a habit of tailgating ambulances to speed through traffic.

Did you learn to drive in Asia OP?

If you highbeem it three times, it will slow down at every major intersection and try to drag race you.

This. And sometimes you wonder why the response time is as long as it is right now. One day, it could be someone you know, a family member, or a loved one needing emergency services. Every second/minute counts.

My guess is that either people have their music cranked up loud or they are simply not scanning their mirrors like they are supposed to. I mean, you must be deaf to not hear the siren coming from almost 2 blocks away. Plenty of time to change to the right lane. The worse is when people just stops their car right then and there, creating a jam for the emergency vehicle.

I doubt it. Some peope use the mandatory pull-over as an opportunity to jump the traffic queue, overtake the pulled over cars, and just pull over at the beginning of the line; or wherever in the line of cars they find themselves in when the ambulance/police/firetruck come up right behind them.

or,

Some drivers just don't want to get passed by these afformentioned drivers so they keep driving until the very last moment, and then pull over.

Music is hardly an excuse IMO. Even if in the odd chance your music is so loud, you can't hear the sirens, when cars ahead of you (or aroundyou) are pulling over should give you a clue as to what's happening; and it's not a chance to jump ahead of traffic.
