Failed Air Care. Help please! Hi guys, i'm 197 lbs and heres my story. I just recently got a 1997 integra and the previous owner told me the car has been sitting in the garage for a year (he moved downtown and found no need for a car). The car has 279kms but the car is mint. So i started it up with no problems, drove it for a good week, inflated the tires, got the oil change, put 94 gas in this beauty, drove the car for an hour prior to air care and failed :( Here are the results 2014-01-04 10:51:09 Driving HC: 0.57 gm/km fail :( Driving CO: 6.67 gm/km Driving NOx: 0.77 gm/km It failed by .07! The guy who inspected the car asked me if the car has been sitting for a while and i've told him it has been sitting for a good year, he recommended me to drive the car for a couple more hours, get the cat converters real hot and bring it back in. So i drove it on the highway for 3 more hours and went back to the aircare facility and failed once again! 2014-01-04 14:50:22 Driving HC: 0.60 fail again! Driving CO: 5.84 Driving NOx: 0.81 But this time it did worse than the first test! What is going on? The second person who inspected the car told me to get the cat converters checked but the previous owner had the cat converters, clutch, spark plugs/wires changed back in 2010. I really don't want to pay $300 for a 3 month pass since i think it's a waste of money, i rather just pay yearly. As of right now i'm thinking of changing the spark plugs, putting in a new air filter, over inflating the tires, keeping the revs high, drive 2-3 hours prior, add 94 gas and maybe put a liter of methyl hydrate :$ Thoughts/recommendations? Please help, I really want to drive this thing. |

dont run premium unless your car requires it, unburned fuel could be giving u bad results |
Run 91. Your car only requires 91. High HC (hydro carbon) means unburnt fuel. You're running too rich. Caused by rich tune/octane too high. High CO (carbon monoxide) incomplete combustion. Caused by bad spark. change plugs. High NOx (nitrogen oxide) excessive combustion temps. Running too lean. Caused by lean tune / octane too low. So. Empty tank. Run 91, and keep running 91 because you're wasting money on 94 when your car doesn't even need it. Posted via RS Mobile |

Worked for parents Odyssey. Instructions say to put in a full tank, I waited till tank was empty and filled half a tank of premium then added this. Drove it next day on highway for 45 mins, went straight to aircare and bam guess who passed. Posted via RS Mobile |

Pour a gallon of methyl hydrate into your fuel tank. Go for a hard drive. Make sure you take advantage of the VTEC (I'm not kidding) then go do Aircare. Do not use 94 octane as the others have said. Your ECU's fuel map is designed for whatever it states (I'm thinking 91?) and will likely cause you to fail if running 94. |

High concentrations of it will be, on a long-term basis. But for the sake of simply passing Aircare, it should be okay. I've done it myself before and it made things a lot easier. |

the 2 part cleaner is better then the in tank. go to lordco and buy the two part system. put the bottle in with a full tank (you're not high comp...not sure why people are even saying 91, base gas should be fine, it shouldn't pre-det on you). -disconnect your brake booster line. -plug in the cylinder/header/O2 sensor spray kit to the end of the brake booster line which flows into the intake manifold. -you'll need a friend to hold the rpm around 2000. at this point you start spraying the cleaner into the brake booster line. the car will want to stall out, make sure your friend gives it more gas. yu want the rpm to be as low as possible without stalling. this lets the spray sit for a bit in the areas it cleans. if you hold the rpm too high the spray will just pass right through the system without the chance to clean. the engine will sound bad and start bucking and trying to die because the air fuel ratio is off, but this is around the rpm range you want to clean. once the bottle is empty, and while the engine is still running, get your friend to hold the rpm higher around 4000-4500, for 45 seconds, then give it a few quick revs (this is VERY important because it makes sure there isn't any cleaner left in the engine. if you miss this step it can be hard to start the car after you shut it off). -then see if the car will sit at idle. -if it does your done. -if it does not sit at idle and stalls out, that means you probably didn't give it enough time at the higher rpm after the cleaner went through, and there is still some cleaner left in the system. if this happens it will probably be hard to start. just start the car like normal and if you get it to fire step on the gas so air and fuel will push the left over cleaner out of the engine. then drive the car until the tank is empty so the entire tank/fuel pump/filter/lines/injectors/rail system is clean. then air care it. |
Well, I finally passed air care!! Put in some of that methyl hydrate, drove out all of that 94 and put in 87 gas, changed my spark plugs, and air filter and passed with flying colours! 1/11/14 Driving HC: 0.31 gm/km Pass!!! :D Driving CO: 4.21 gm/km Significantly lower than previous tests Driving NOx: 0.48 gm/km Significantly lower than previous tests! I guess the main issue is that I was putting in 87 gas and my spark plugs are old as hell :p Thanks for all the help guys appreciate it all. willthank/10 Attachment 19786 |
