BMW unveils self drifting car

Nope, not just self driving. BMW recently showcased new technology in a M235i that drifts the car around a track without any human input.

Having the rear kick out from a wet patch =/= drifting

shenmecar 01-08-2014 06:24 PM

look ma! no hands!

Lamboda 01-08-2014 06:29 PM

Cool. But I hope it doesn't get into the cars because a) if you're a car enthusiast you probably want to drift yourself. b) because a large number of people in richmond drive BMWs.

knight604 01-08-2014 06:38 PM

Where's the fun in this?

Well I don't think they're actually gonna ever come out with self drifting cars. But I'm pretty sure they're using this to test out technology to save self driving cars from unwanted loss of control (such as a wet patch or something).

Soon you will be able to get wasted and have your car drive you home!

E-SPEC 01-08-2014 08:25 PM

Soon your car will have lubricated vagina, and you can pound it daily.

maksimizer 01-08-2014 08:29 PM

.5 seconds of drifting

:dissapointed

:hoax

ae101 01-08-2014 09:17 PM

Datsun 01-08-2014 09:33 PM

Lexus came up with self-drifting cars first.

In which case, 99% of "drifters" in Vancouver are not drifters

Cool idea, but thanks, I would rather drive my car than buy an overpriced taxi.

i think most of you guys are thinking to far into this, most car manufacturer do stuff like this just to show you what they are capable of..

look at Hondas Asimo robot..

technology like this and other smart cruise control systems can and will be used as safety devices. so i dont have any complains of a car company showing off a little.

walk before you can run right? this is still new

Mr.Stubbz 01-09-2014 01:18 PM

imagine all those rich kids that could go like "going on the on/off ramp, time to press the self drifting button to look like a total badass!"
