Encryption doesn't do crap in situation like this. Wifi transmits your phone's wifi mac whenever it is on and they record all the mac traffic and stick it in a database and create a vector that way.

You turn on encryption you still need a wifi connection.

Calls could be encrypted too if its through the internet using a Skype to Skype type programs... these are good ways to change how we communicate but like you mentioned, our dictator isnt a dick.

We dont have it bad, we may supply the empire with energy and other resources to fuel its unending acts of genocide around the world... but because we're not aware of world politics and the hidden hands behind things... its seems people of this country wouldnt care to make any changes because it hasent reached a breaking point.

Yes, we are very limited to what we can keep private, just like how with cell phone towers they collect movements, how the websites we visit can identify us, or how the operating system (software like Windows) of our devices could be sending out the hardware id upon browsing the internet.
Even if we are to talk and text on encrypted communications, with high level suspects, they can use backdoors built into our phones to snoop in or try to break the encryption of sent messages (traveling on Canadas servers) with super computers.
