I beg your pardon......... I love listening to Tegan and Sara. Wait, they is local, nvm.

I thought local bands when you said music scene. We do have a lot of talented musicians. And, me like electronic dance music......... get's my blood going - better than Geritol. I know what you mean, BTW, and agree.

also music scene is pretty decent if your into good open mic/unkowns, plenty of piano bar type places and bars with good people, good food, good music

I really miss the Hot Jazz Club that used to be on Main Street. Others have popped up in its place. Just need to discover them. Also, the art scene in Vancouver is good, from what I hear (I'm not into art - I draw stick people).

Lots of live theatre around, too. The arts are alive and doing well in Vancouver.

I have a lot of friends living in Brisbane and I'm shocked by how many local bands they have.

Maybe I'm just oblivious to it because I don't hang out with unemployed punk rocker type crowd. Is there a website that says what shows are coming to Vancouver?

I know boy and bear are coming and I can't wait.

What are our smaller local music venues?

What is the biltimore?

You mean the Biltmore Cabaret on Kingsway at Grandview Hwy?

Vancouver is all about nature. If you don't place much value in that, the city has not much to offer for you.

For anyone dissatisfied with Vancouver, I strongly recommend living in a city where you would rather prefer. It's the only way to realize the true beauty of Vancouver.

For something different, check out Science World After Dark. The event happens once a month and it's typically on the last or second-last Friday of each month.

Tickets are typically $18 for early bird/online or $25 at the door. It's an adults only event, so you get to explore Science World without the kiddies running around and plus, they sell beer and wine! :)

The only drawback is that it can get pretty packed (so go early) and a some people are there to only get drunk. For the most part, however, it's a fun event if you haven't been to Science World in a while.

Since were on this topic, I was wondering if anyone can suggest specific fun/romantic areas/places to go to.

My girlfriends birthday is at the end of this month and due to the fact that I skipped out on our half-a-year anniversary (because of midterms), I'd like to make it up to her.

I have read everyones comments previously, any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :toot:

6 month anniversary? Sorry, but I need to laugh.. HAHAHA

Unless you're in High School.. If I recall, the rules are: 1 month, 3 month, 6 month, 1 year, 2 year, etc. right?

JaeF 02-22-2014 12:29 PM

^ I am not sure of these so called "rules". We usually just pick somewhere that looks delicious on the 21 of every month, that is our custom. I don't find it to be humourous, every relationship has their own unique custom.

MG1 02-22-2014 12:33 PM

^^if she is smokin' hot, 6 months is good enough of a reason to celebrate, hee hee.

I was gonna suggest the Tea House in Stanley Park, but it may not be the right kind of place. I took smokin' hot girl there once and it was a go......... mind you, this was loooooong time ago (before getting married, of course). Might not be the same magical place it used to be.

EDIT: too slow to reply..........

taking out a girl is never a bad idea. I wish I had done that a lot more. A good night out with a good woman is totally OK. That Bruno Mars song, When I Was Your Man, says it best.

MG1 02-22-2014 12:43 PM

Holy fricken shit........ I just had my first bad case of seniors moment. That hot chick was my wife of 30+ years......... before we got married. No shit........... now I don't feel so bad, LOLOLOLOLOLOL

z3german 02-22-2014 12:50 PM

If you are in with the locals i hear Captain Happy Bubble is a good time

I am not in with the locals..... Where dis thing at?

I'm not sure if my sarcasm detector is broken, but you seriously say vancouver is lacking in the music scene and you don't know what the biltmore is? The problem isn't the vancouver music scene, its just that you haven't found it. Its not the city's fault you are uninformed.
As per the original post, last night I saw dave foley perform a live comedy show, sat at the wood of an awesome bar that had a great bartender shooting the shit til well past close with him and my wife, woke up early, went snowboarding, went bowling, then bbq'd burgers at my friends house with 20+ people. If you think the city is boring, you aren't trying hard enough.

falcon 02-23-2014 09:50 AM

Why do people always need to have something to "DO" to have fun? I prefer spending time with friends be it out for dinner, the beach, snowboard or just hanging out at different houses. BBQ's, hot tub partys etc... lol. Sure I like "going out" and doing things too.

evlee 02-23-2014 10:14 AM

Vancouver boring? not to me. from hiking, snowboarding, rock climbing, day trips, car meets, trying new eateries, cycling, group riding with motorcycles, walking around downtown, camping, gun range, white water rafting, paddle boats, beaches, rented a cabin on indian arm for a week it was awesome. those are the things i do thru out the year.

meme405 02-23-2014 06:20 PM

Bill Burr coming to Vogue in a couple weeks. if you like comedy grab a couple friends and some tickets. Should be hilarious.

Seem's high tea is a popular place going on. Stanley Park, Van Dusen Gardens, Kerrisdale places, many high end hotels,

There's always the restaurant where you dine in the dark for a more unique experience. If you're looking for an all day thing, maybe take her over to Victoria Island for a nice day.

If you just want to please her, just take her out shopping on robson on day with all expenses paid via your credit card :heckno:

:( Don't know why you're ripping on the guy. Doesn't seem that big a deal to me...

I have quite a few people on facebook who celebrate months and not 1, 2, 3 but "Happy 58 months" and just stuff like that. To each their own, I say.

Personally, I don't do the whole month thing.
