Island HT build thread My parents own a house that's used for vacation rentals and that we use ourselves. The home theater build was supposed to start last year around this time but it got pushed back. This is the room. First 4 pics with a cellphone the rest with a DSLR. http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-wh2sVrg-L.jpg http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-hkq76Gb-L.jpg The wall that is being taking down. http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-xvHLfqM-L.jpg http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-Hv6tjjz-L.jpg The wall taken down. http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-9BGtmc9-L.jpg http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-qMTDh7R-L.jpg Basic framing done. The big space in the middle is were the acoustically transparent screen will go. Speakers and subs will go behind that and the equipment will be located on the side. There will also be a bar (sink and mini fridge) on the right corner. http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-sDJ5dQ3-L.jpg http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-LBgFrv5-L.jpg http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-rtR6xRD-L.jpg Equipment: Projector: Optima HD 65 will be upgrading down the road. Pre/pro: Marantz av7005. Got lucky found it on craigslist. Amp: Emotiva 80x7 RMS for rears and backyard speakers Front speakers: 3 Behringer TRUTH B2031A powered studio monitors. rear speakers: 4 Axiom on wall speakerss. outdoor: 2 Emotiva outdoor speaker. Subwoofers: DIY undecided. Sub amp: ether a Behringer EP 2500 or EP 1500. Already own both. Screen: Seymour XD acoustically transparent screen material. Screen fram by Jamestown HT screens. The screen took way longer to arrive then expected. They said it would ship in 10 days but took months. I hear it's a common problem with Jamestown. HTPC: Probably some type of steam box. Turntable: Technics 1200 |

So I had some 15 inch subs for sale on CL. Got a call talked to the guy a bunch of times ended up selling the Behringer EP2500 amp instead for $300. So I need some more power for subs. Looking at this: Behringer iNUKE NU3000DSP | Sweetwater.com or this: Behringer iNUKE NU6000DSP | Sweetwater.com If I bought the second one I have no idea what I would do with all that power. Edit: The guy who bought the amp now called me because he found the amp cheaper on some site. Now wants 60 bux back or he will get his brother after me. |
What are you doing for dampening in the walls and ceiling? |
I'm still alive. Ended up giving him $30 bux back. He came all the way from Qualicum Beach with his brother to get it. Quote:

really cool pics! nice thread :D are these the types of speakers you have for your rears? In-wall/On-wall Speaker Hybrid | Axiom Audio I never knew thin profile wall speakers were available always thought i'd have to do in-walls or regular bookshelf/tower speakers sweet you'll probably want to soundproof your boiler room or i imagine the theatre sound will leak into the entire house? |

The sound will travel thru the house but it's not a problem because we don't live there full time and people on vacation renting will knot mind. Neighbors to the left on the other hand might. |
Just added to the equipment list: Turntable: Technics 1200. Was told yesterday that the drywall will start on Monday or Tuesday so I had to get wiring done. Call everyplace i could think of for 3 inch flexible conduit for HDMIbut no one has it. So now I am going to run the HDMI cable with out a conduit and then a smaller conduit that will be empty except for some rope. Might do 2 runs. Last night I spent 2.5 hours running 4 speaker cables to the back. These are the speaker clips I bought. Turned out to be way to big but I used them anyway. http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-Kr92zVb-L.jpg 250 feet of 14 gauge speaker wire rated for in wall use. http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-w9B3pSR-L.jpg Tip always buy more then you need and run lengths longer than you need. First run done. http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-2nVHjg3-M.jpg All 4 done. http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-cps9mzB-L.jpg http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-GWw2g8Z-L.jpg http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-7GV5dvZ-L.jpg I made sure to label all the cables on both ends. Amount of cable left. http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-fqkhckL-L.jpg Pics of the equipment rack being built. http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-VFqzpZB-L.jpg Will be running the HDMI cable today or tomorrow. |
More updates: I wanted to run a 2 to 3 inch flexable conduit/pipe tothe projector just incase I need to run a new cable. Carlon makes a fexable conduit but I could not find it anywere in stock. I found fome 1.25 inch flexable Poly pipe at Home Deopt in a 100 foot lenght for $65. I did go with a ridged pipe because you don't want any 90 degree turns but long sweeping turns. http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-vfXSgjF-L.jpg http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-5wPrx6Q-L.jpg http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-JMqn4QJ-L.jpg Ran 2 pieces of rope thru the pipe so I could pull a new cable down the road. Only used about 20 feet of pipe have over 70 feet left. http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-WCb38W5-L.jpg Ran a HDMI, 2 cat 5e and one 3.5 mm jack cable outside the conduit. No point in putting it in the conduit. http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-8pWbFFV-L.jpg Drywall time!!! http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-pJP3bbd-L.jpg http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-DTVdkFb-L.jpg http://viphotobooth.smugmug.com/phot...-c255356-L.jpg |
