Corrosion on battery tie down? I've seen corrosion on my battery terminals before, but just recently I've been noticing corrosion on the battery tie downs as well. Is this something I should be concerned about? Picture below, circled in red. http://members.shaw.ca/volvoman/inde...224_194256.jpg |
No, tie downs are cheap to replace. Just use some hot water to remove the crystals then put some copper paste on the terminals. |
nope normal, i sanded them and spray painted them. looks brand new again |
Batteries are always releasing gases. I would keep it painted, and make sure you keep your terminal posts clean. Water and baking soda works. |
ill add dielectric grease on the terminals to keep them rust proof |
Thanks, I just figured it was weird that I was getting corrosion on the tie down, where the plastic shell of the battery was. Thought it was somehow conducting. |

It is that time of year! We notice a huge spike in visible corrosion on and around the battery during the winter. The cold demands your battery and charging system to work harder so make sure you service your battery and clean your terminals at the beginning and end of winter! They are very often overlooked. |
