Router suggestion

Getting fed up with this POS Actiontec Telus router, and am wanting to upgrade. The Chinese in me wants to get something cheaper that's good enough, but I also want something that's a bit more future proof. Currently have it narrowed down to the following:

Asus N56u - $100
Asus AC56u - $140
Asus N66u - $140

Ideally I want something that's compatible with Tomato or DD-WRT. Having wireless ac would be cool, but with my S4 being the only compatible device, I don't see the value in it.

Can anyone chime in?

I've got the n66u. It's the best router I've ever used hands down. I run merlin's firmware on mine and its rock stable. Can't go wrong with either n66 or ac66 models really.

go with the AC stuff :) not sure if N mode on the AC would be better than the N router itself =/

AC56U doesn't have tomato support yet...but Shibby's version is coming soon
many run on Merlin beacuse it's based on the AsusWRT so it doesn't affect performance or is buggy
mine is running stock FW...awaiting Shibby's because I need the bandwidth limiter
depends if you can spend more than $100 and need Tomato right now...then get AC66U...if not get AC56U as it has better specs minus wireless throughput
if you are looking to spend less than $100 get the N56/66

Ended up getting the Netgear WNDR3700 that dhillon09 suggested before he edited his post lulz

$76 at Memory Express after price match... now to figure out DD-WRT...

Stealing this thread:

Assuming I get the N66U, how do I throttle my tenants on wifi?
I used to be able to download torrents at 500k-1mb/s. Now this new guy moved in and he's killing my speeds to 120kb/s
I can barely stream Netflix now as well.

My router is a piece of shit that I bought like 10 years ago, but I haven't had issues until this guy moved in.

I suck with computers. Please dumb down replies. :D

I have the n66u.
There this feature on the router software, Quality of Service (QoS).
It lets you control the priority and upload/download speed of the clients.

I was in the same situation before.
Had an old router with slow speed. If there more than one user is connected, other people cannot stream at all.
I upgraded to the n66u and now multiply users can stream/torrent at the same time!

^This. You can custom tailor your traffic rules based on the connected device.

Anyone have experience with JCG routers? I am looking at specifically the JCG JHR-N936R.
