wordpress website

I have some basic HTML experience and can edit wordpress pages pretty extensively but have never created a website from scratch

was wondering if I should outsource this or try to do it myself
website would be very simple, just a few pages of information and images

can I get it up and running in one weekend? just looking for general feedback thanks

Pretty easy to do. Look for a theme on themeforest and google how to set up a wordpress website. You might have some troubles making things look exactly how you want but its a sacrifice for a pre-coded theme.

You'll need a host like hostgator or bluehost and then a domain name. Both hosting options have a one click solution to set up wordpress.

Yea you should be able to do it fairly easily. Like JKam said you'll need a domain and a host.

Once you have those two - you can either use their one click install OR manually set it up yourself. It will definitely be easier if you use their one click installs unless you know what you're doing.

Manual setup usually includes
1. Set up FileZilla or any FTP client
2. Set up a database (can do within your host's cpanel)
3. Download latest wordpress install from WordPress ? Blog Tool, Publishing Platform, and CMS
4. Upload unzipped files to your public_html folder for your host
5. Run wp-install and entering the database information

Feel free to PM me if you need any help

Wordpress.com is where wordpress hosts everything for you.

Wordpress.org is the site for their free platform that you can install on your own hosting servers.

It can definitely be done in 1-2 days. Probably 1-2 hours :)

.com is hosted by Wordpress and you're very limited in what themes you can use. You can only use the themes provided by Wordpress.

.org is the version you download and host yourself.

Yup that's about all you need to do and it shouldn't take more than that. It might take up to 24 hours to resolve the domain to your host.

Biggest difference is that the wordpress version isn't really "yours". Its extremely limited in what you can do with the site and I think you don't get any SEO benefit out of it. That and it looks dumb when your URL is yourcompany.wordpress.com rather than yourcompany.com

It'll cost you somewhere around $200-300 for domain and host for 2 years.

Setting up the hosting can easily be done in 1-2 hours. Making your website can take a lot longer though depending how much of a perfectionist you are lol. My personal site took me 2 months to finish while I set up one for a friend in a couple days.

I use Graph Paper Press themes and just browsed the support forums to do minimal edits.

Same here.

I started out with bluehost because they have wordpress preloaded. All you have to do is make an account, click "add wordpress" and you're basically up and running.

They have a ton of free themes for you to pick from too. After that it's basically like editing text/adding photos into a microsoft word document -- super easy!

Wordpress also has an android app so you can blog/update photos of your trip directly to your website from your phone/tablet

any preferred free themes you guys use?
