Is there a difference in gas milage between the two? is it worth using 94 in the long run with saving any money?

In theory, Chevron 94 should have more energy than 91 since there is no ethanol (though 91 Shell doesn't have ethanol), so Chevron 94 should yield better mileage. However, 94 is around 3 cents per litre more. So in the end, the $$ saving is probably minimal.

Driving habits probably play a bigger role for getting more mileage. You'd save more $$ driving around like a champagne colored Toyota Corolla driver.

what about brands of gas? I've heard people swear that they feel a difference, but honestly the car drives the same to me

isnt 94 best used for v8s and supercars only?

Just follow your manufactures recommendations, no need to use beyond what is required. Only use 94 if your car's tuned for it.

I would only use gas that your car was designed/tuned for. Be careful when it comes to ethanol, some gas stations have it in all their gas grades, and others don't.

The TL-S says minimum 91 required, but from what i've experienced it benefits alot from 94.

On a tank of 91 it runs around 280-290 kms all city driving, but on hot days will ping like crazy.

On 94 it runs much better with more power throughout and gets me 310-320 kms

Acura says its a 65L tank tho dont know where its hiding the last 15L LOL

You must have a brick for a foot. I don't think I ever got less then 400km/tank on my 2005 TL. I used to use 94 and went to 91 because the car is stock and not tuned or anything. I didn't notice a difference in mileage or performance.

my 2008 TL-S didn't matter if I put 91 or 94, I only got 330km a tank and I didn't feel anything different

So your saying your TL-S gets roughly 15MPG

I'm saying I get 330km per tank :)

I drive it like i stole it :lawl: , 16L/100KM or 15MPG sounds about right for mine.

Guys over at acurazine said 94 should benefit the type-s since its higher compression ratio.

Someone did a test of different octane levels in relation to pinging and ignition timing and found that it required 96 octane before the computer would pull minimal timing.

Actually, from what I have been told, 94 is harder to burn and can actually be detrimental. Use what is recommended by the Mfg. As for Ethanol, it will actually mix with any water in your tank (gas will not) and let it go through the system and burn out.

Mileage will only be affected by a Car that has a wideband sensor and an ECU(engine management) that has been tuned effectively in the lower throttle range 50% and below for a 14.7 Air to Fuel ratio (aka perfect combustion) of gasoline to air mixture leaving 0 O2 molecules left, aka all CO2 and H2O are left over and no O2. the difference between 91 and 94 is when you get the engine hot and under some load and at a high RPM or under boost when heat is prevalent and you start to have pre ignition or detonation, this is when the piston hasn't reached TDC (top dead center) and the air/gas mixture ignites without a spark, usually on the edges of the combustion chamber pocket where the head meets the top of the cylinder walls. 91 octane will have a lower temperature than 94 octane for pre ignition and thats the only difference between the two. therefore yes in an earlier post 94 is for supercars and 91 is for cars like the mazda 3 with skyactive, yes it still has high compression but mazda built that car for 91 octane, you can't use 87 in the car because on a hot day you might get detonation, but 94 is fine to use, but you won't see many benefits from the gas unless you modify your ECU at a tuning shop on a dynamometer. if your cars stock and doesn't have a rating I'd say use 87, if it has a rating on the tank use that gas, it will never hurt to go up in octane but it can hurt to go down.

With this guy^ get afr gauge make sure knock sensor is working. Cheap preventative measures. Also the manufacturer recommendations are certainly there for a reason

I use 94 regularly, & get better milage.
It not a whole lot better than 91, but noticeable from 87.
