Vancouver Film School - Game Design Program

Just wondering if anyone here has been in this program? How is it compared to the AI one? How successful would you be getting a job once graduating?

look up reviews online.

seems like a buncha these art schools are all just money grabbers.

I'd be weary. they're hella expensive. I showed interest and they wouldn't stop calling me to see when I was ready to sign up etc.

end of the day i chose not to go with them.

of course you should also get personal opinions from people that have gone through these schools.

I completely agree. Back when I was interested in the Art Institute, it was as if they were trying to sell me their facilities instead of their program. They didn't stop calling me and pressuring me to sign up, and a few people I know that have graduated from these programs are struggling to find jobs.
In the end with all these art schools, it's about networking.

I look elsewhere. I know BCIT have graphic design but I don't think is for game design but if you learn the correct skills I don't see why not.

Just to let you know, my friend from China took a director program for around 20k a semester. Let's just say the class is so bad that I don't think he learn a thing. But hey at least he got a free VSF bag. Don't think he really cares as his parents are rich.

Maybe something like this?

BCIT : : Computer Systems (Games Development Option): Full-time, Bachelor of Technology

Yeah I think I put my number down to speak to an adviser..they called me back in two hours lol.

I do see a lot of alumni from the program at pretty decent positions in the game industry.

Ulic Qel-Droma 03-26-2014 12:45 PM

yeah but how many people don't get those positions?

and how many of those people already had some skills before entering the program?

ive heard they don't really teach u how to do whatever program you're learning... its more about prepping u for the work environment... not sure if this is true.

i've heard a lot of things about other art schools. like basic stuff that makes u wonder wtf...

emily karr, doesn't teach you how to draw.
VFS, for classical animation, don't teach u how to draw either. it's just like expected you know the basics of it and all the students that are hardcore into it beforehand excel (obviously) and the ppl that go there expecting everything to be taught to them gain nothing. the teachers just focus on the good students and ive also heard stuff like there's too many students and not enough teachers, u don't even get to talk to any or ask questions.

also like they have these things where industry ppl come in and get cozy with the students... but obviously they just look at the students that excel. it's those students who get those jobs.

not sure if that has changed.
i'd do serious in depth research before signing up. like someone else said. every semester is like 20g or something crazy.

if you wanna do game design, i would make sure you're already into it and it's a passion (aka it's a hobby you do in your regular life too).
