Puppy with seizures
 

Recently my 8 month old frenchie has been having seizures. He is currently on phenobarbital to help with his condition. While he was on his medication for a month, he did not have any seizures. Unfortunately his seizures have returned and are worse than before. He had a cluster of seizures this past Sunday. He had 7 in a span of 2 hours. Our vet has now referred us to a specialist. Before we have a visit with the specialist knowing full well that this will be a costly visit, does anyone have any experience dealing with seizures from their dogs? Would you guys suggest I go to a different vet for a second opinion?

About a year ago, my dog had cluster seizures. We took him to the specialist and he could tell from that point on that we needed to go to the animal hospital. My dog was 13 and we lost him shortly after.

Not trying to spook you or anything, but my suggestion to you is to go to a specialist right away, no matter the cost.
Just like a human seizure, the more they have, the more harm it does to the brain.

i also had a 13 year old dog that experienced cluster seizures. Even though the dog was on medication, it only stopped the seizures for the first few months. they came back shortly after and eventually we lost the dog. i would take BraedenDA's advice and take your dog into a specialist as soon as possible. best of luck to you

My boyfriend's dog is between 4-6 years old. He started having seizure last year and recently had 3 consecutive one in one day on Sunday. My boyfriend took him to the vet and had to stay over night. His dog has been taking medication (don't know the name but was taking 4 pills) Now I believe he has to take one extra pill with another type. Apparently the Vet said because the dog's liver is breaking the pill very quickly...and he has to lose some weight. Hope your puppy gets better!

i had a dog that died at the age of 2 from severe seizures.

hers were grand mal seizures and would last 5+ minutes of violent shaking, bleeding, and peeing herself. she was on the same pill you mentioned, and had another pill to take during the seizure(had to be inserted into her bum through a tube thing) which would usually bring her out of it within a minute. was hard on her and me and my family, watching her go through it all.

really sad to hear all these stories hope for the best
