Paul Bart, Mall Cop, Spidey's true identity. Paul Blart: Mall Cop (2009) - IMDb

All he needs in an empty phone booth and 3 seconds....but you know how scarce phone booths are these days. He is forced to use mall photo booths as a backup.

Abbotsford came to mind after I posted. Don't know many of those guys but they always look angry. I think abbotsford is a tough place to police.

Now I'm a little put off that I'm giving up all my radar detector secrets to the man.

There were 5 to 6 cars pulled over together.

meme405 04-29-2014 08:46 PM

If everyone is speeding along at 20 over, it doesn't stop the cop from pulling one of you over, it just means you are unlucky as fuck if he nails you with the gun and pulls you over.

I as well have seen traps with multiple officers where they pull anywhere from 2-5 cars over.

EDIT: and if you are in a group or part of a series of motorists being exceptionally stupid, yes they will slam you all. Just like those 20+ cars in richmond a few years ago.

Of course that was a rare case of extreme idiocy, but still it does happen.

Adorkami 04-29-2014 09:45 PM

Done work for the VPD before, some of the guys there are pretty good. I remember once having a conversation with one of the guys that had been there over 20 years and he was telling me one of the issues with new officers is they don't understand the impact of their decisions.

Oh ya... how could i forget them Transit cops!

originalhypa 04-30-2014 09:23 AM

Don't forget these guys!
http://www.operationlifesaver.ca/wp-...nforcement.jpg

This really is an interesting picture. I guess the Rail Police have a specific jurisdiction, within 500m of rail property as per justice.gc.ca

"(3) The police constable has jurisdiction on property under the administration of the railway company and in any place within 500 m of property that the railway company owns, possesses or administers."

So in some places the Rail Police will enforce traffic laws. Along with these fellows who I see all the time.

I appreciate what the LEO's do. When I see some dickweed, 17 year old kid with an N, blasting down a side road at 85kmh, I wish there was a cop around to teach him a lesson. Or Batman. At this point I'll take either to keep our community safe.

But I really hate when I get caught in the net.
:seriously:

Regarding CN popo
"In Canada, members are federally sworn in under section 44.1 of the Railway Safety Act granting powers as Police Constables and have the same powers of arrest as any police officer in Canada anywhere in Canada as 'Peace Officers' under Section 2 of the Criminal Code of Canada. Police Constables are employed by Canadian National and are also considered public servants, sworn to the Crown to uphold the law and protect"

originalhypa 04-30-2014 09:51 AM

Transit police have a similar mandate.
  • Passengers feel safer when they see police on the system.
  • Criminals avoid the system knowing that police are there.
  • We enforce minor offences, which can have a greater effect on the reduction of crime and disorder.
  • We remove criminals from the system by discovering arrest warrants, court conditions, probation and parole conditions.
  • We enforce other laws – including, but not limited to, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Liquor Act, Motor Vehicle Act, Safe Streets Act, Trespass Act, and Immigration Act.

There was a story in the paper last year about the offenses that transit police have ticketed for while on route to different stations.

Do transit police have radar and laser too?!?!?

:lol

Spidey 04-30-2014 09:55 AM

Transit cops are Provincially sworn in Police officers.. They go through the same training as all municipal forces, like VPD, Delta, Abby, etc.... A lot of people do not think they are "real cops" because of their "transit" title. It's a rude awakening when you get handcuffed and charged for Obstruction or an other Criminal Code offence lol. But back on topic, I don't see why Transit cop cruisers wouldn't be equipped with laser/radar

yea...that's exactly what it is, you are never safe from the cops even if you are just going along with the traffic flow.

XplicitLuder 04-30-2014 08:04 PM

since its the second time i have seen this..may i ask why do you guys say a radar wont catch the trap if theyre shooting laser? i was coming back on the I-5 at night and next thing i know my 9500ix goes crazy with LASER warning, and right as i pass under a bridge the cop is on top waiting lol i didnt get pulled over..and mind you i was about 25km over the limit and slowed right down once i could. Are you guys just using cheapo radars or are the lasers up here in vancouver different than down there lol

Brad Fuel 04-30-2014 08:26 PM

the State Trooper was a noob. He gave away his position but playing laser plinko dinging every car in sight. If he had just waited and lasered only the vehicles that were going fast you would likely not have got a warning or only very late.

Not a day goes by that I don't see a transit driver either run a light or speed.

Brianrietta 04-30-2014 10:37 PM

Not a sebberry post goes by where I don't frown and think to myself "so..?"

it was 3am and imnot very familiar with the I-5. i only saw him once i was about to pass under the bridge. mind you there was 2 cars behind me, so maybe i just captured the signal bouncing off the others lol or ..maybe he didnt care about pulling me over

Because a radar detector detects just that: radar. Modern detectors are frequently equipped with laser detectors as well, hence your "LASER" warning. However, if your detector warns you of laser, the chances are pretty high that your speed has already been acquired and hitting the brakes at that point would be pointless.

Sigged.

meme405 05-01-2014 07:48 AM

Just to add to the above, radar signals bounce all over the place which is why detectors are so successful in catching the signal and giving that information to you in the form of a useful warning.

Laser is a direct line of sight thing, most officers pick a car pull the trigger and almost instantly have the speed of that vehicle, the signals do not bounce, therefore it is very rare for a radar to detect a signal from a laser unless the car was already hit by the gun. If that is the case then its already too late, you can slow down all you want but the officer already has your speed.

This has nothing to do with cheap or expensive detectors, and has everything to do with physics.

Like...I can't like watch TV on a radio? Like why is that? :accepted::whistle:

sebberry 05-04-2014 11:18 AM

zulutango, does the design, colour or reflectivity of the car you're trying to measure affect how quickly the lidar gun gives you a speed reading? If so, what's the shortest and longest amount of time it takes to get a reading?
