Any recommended ISP ?

Currently using SHAW 50M for $8x + tax, and the internet wasn't any faster except it has more capacity for download / upload / streaming

planning to switch to a plan with lower rate, which ISP & plan would all of Revsceners recommend?

I'm pretty happy with shaw, but their prices aren't the greatest but they've finally gotten their shit together in my area (used to constantly drop / slow down to like 2 Mbps during peak hours) -- if you are a student you can just wait until late summer / fall when they do their student pricing which is basically 50% off

If you're worried about cost, but not so worried about downloading/uploading/streaming why not just switch to Shaw 25M for $30/month instead of $80?
Your only other viable option is Telus ... which is more or less the same price (or it was when I checked). There are a few smaller companies offering cheap internet but service is spotty and getting tech support is even harder than with shaw

Your main options are:

1) Stay with Shaw

2) Move to Telus

The only other possible options, really, would be to find a new development (home/condo) that has Novus, or Teksavvy (which leases from Shaw/Telus).

Teksavvy has some good rates, but tech support is likely weaker as it's third party and has up front modem and installation costs (usually free with service from Shaw/Telus).

Telus and Shaw have both upped their rates, lately, unfortunately.

If you do upload photos and such, though, Telus' 15/25 have upload speeds of up to 5mbps, vs Shaw's max of 2.5 on the 25, etc. I've got Telus Optik 15 and my upload speeds range from 4.5mbps to 6mbps. Perfect for uploading large numbers of pictures from trips/travels. As always, YMMV.

Staying with Shaw is the way to go. Shaw home internet comes with complimentary ShawGo (formerly ShawOpen) Wifi. If you sign up your phone's MAC ID, you have access to wifi almost everywhere. No need for data plans lol.
Telus is about the same price but doesn't offer wifi.

like what others saying, we only have Telus and Shaw. the rest are resellers

This company seems to get general RFD approved consensus...

I hate Telus for how many times they've screwed over myself and my family over the years, plus Shaw's webmail system recently saved my bacon when my password was compromised because your password has to get changed from within your master Shaw account, access to your email account alone won't be able to change the password.

Theres teksavvy too!

z3german 05-09-2014 06:09 PM

novus ftw, if only they were in more places.

knight604 05-09-2014 06:20 PM

multicartual 05-09-2014 06:47 PM
