One Pair Of Headphones To Rule Them All?

I have an iPhone (for calls, podcasts/music, and porn), a MacBook Pro (for work/porn), and Samsung/LG TV's (for more porn, and Judge Judy).

I want a pair of wireless headphones that will work for ALL of these devices.

Must have a built-in mic so it can be used for phone calls, Skype, gaming, etc.

Do not care about sound quality (as long as it's 'decent' I'm happy).

Do not care about battery life as long as I can get 4+ hours between charges.

Do not care if I have to use an mic jack adapter or USB adapter for use with my TV's.

Do not care about price as long as it is under $500.

Am I looking for something that doesn't exist? Can't find anything online, but maybe I'm just an audio/AV n00b...

:yuno:

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Parrot zik.

You would need another adapter for your tv (3.5 to bt should work) For tv. But it's awesome.

Sweet, thanks. These look awesome. Don't mind using an adapter for TV.

They're a bit big for using at the gym, but I guess if I have to use the crappy old iPhone earbuds once in a while, it won't kill me. :-)

I use some crappy JVC headphones for gym. They are cheap and sounds ok for gym. More importantly, they are sweat-proof.

Zik is awesome because it's a great headphone (SQ-wise) for a BT based system. And its controls are really intuitive and very responsive.

Welp, update....

Just learned that I have a billion "RBC Rewards points" for spending a shit-ton of money on my VISA, so I used said rewards points to get a set of the Parrot Zik's: Parrot Zik Over-Ear Wireless Headphones (PF560000BA) - Black : On-Ear Headphones - Best Buy Canada

Hehe, these headphones better be awesome, or else I'm sending you a strongly-worded private message......

:joy:

Did you check if it was cheaper for you to buy GC with points and then buy them rather than using points directly?

Either way, I think for $300, it's totally worth it. I got mine when The Source had a 30% off coupon for headphones, but the price was $400 back then, so 280+tax. I don't regret one bit.

Sure it doesn't compare to some high-end wired phones (with amps) SQ-wise, but the convenience is so worth it.

I put it on when I work alone. I can listen to music, answer calls, and order delivery all while walking around or dropping a bomb into the toilet. (it got very decent range) :fullofwin:

The only possible downside is the battery, but it works if you plug the USB cord in, or you can get batteries/chargers on eBay for decent price. I got mine (charger+2 batteries) for 50 shipped.

Audio Technica ATH-M50X are damn good headphones at a great price for what you get. I'd definately recommend them to anyone looking for over the ear headphones.

Manic! 06-15-2014 09:20 PM

I listened to the Ziks in a store and they didn't sound that good to me. Always listen to headphones first before you buy.

great headphones, but they're wired

i recently tried the Logitech G930's .. a few minor issues here and there with interference, but I cannot complain -- 12 hour battery life, cheap price, logitech warranty. Sound quality is decent, better than some of my cheaper headphones but not as good as my audio technicas + nuforce dac. I'd recommend them, but they require a PC/Mac to work (you could make them work with your TV if you used line-in on your PC for the TV, but I don't imagine it'd sound great)

K so I've owned my Parrot Zik's for about a month or so now... time to update this thread with a quick review.... let's call it..

THE ULTIMATE FUCKING PARROT ZIK REVIEW

Build Quality / Design: 10 out of 10. Just awesome. They're a work of art.

Comfort: 8 out of 10. Really comfortable for an hour or two, after that minor irritation. Leather headphone cups can induce sweat.

Battery Life: 9 out of 10. Solid... 6-8 hours of use, 24 hours on standby. With USB charging, I've never ran out of battery and been pissed about it.

Ease of Use: 9 out of 10. Super easy to pair with my phone and laptop. Volume and play/pause controls are awesome.

Noise Cancelling: 7 out of 10. Not bad, cuts out most background noise pretty well, but not amazing.... sounds over 30dB (ie. louder than normal talking) will be heard faintly.

Microphone: 5 out of 10. This is based only on a few phone calls and one laptop sound recording, but the audio quality of the mic sounds comparable to cheap bluetooth one-ear headsets.

Range: 9 out of 10. Definitely works 50+ feet away from the audio source, even through walls. Great range for a bluetooth device. Never cuts out (ever) if using in the same room as the audio source.

Sound quality: 7 out of 10. I'm not an audiophile at all, so this isn't really based on any real expert knowledge... however, I'd say that while the Zik's sound really good overall, the sound quality is not even close to my previous wired cans (5 year old Sennheiser HD-595 open headphones). For bluetooth headphones, they sound great, and for what I listen to normally (talk radio / audiobooks) they're perfect.

Overall: 9 out of 10.

Could you do me a huge favour and link to the adapter I need for this? Would be very much appreciated....

Talked to a sales guy at FutureShit and he had no clue what type of adapter was required. Would be awesome if I could go in and just give them the product # of the adapter I need to use the Zik's for TV.

Or maybe I should just go to an audio specialty store and talk to someone with a brain......

BrRsn 07-23-2014 07:50 AM

Or if you have a macbook/laptop with built in bluetooth you could use that as the computer itself to convert the TV's sound to bluetooth -- run RCA to 3.5mm to mic in on laptop, enable mic playback and connect headphones to bluetooth of your laptop/macbook

If you want to use your bt cans to listen to sound from your tv you need a bt TRANSMITTER not receiver.

Not sure if fs/bb carries these items as they are niche products and not many ppl need/buy them (most ppl use their bt cans with pc/laptop/tablet/phone, which come with bt trans built in)

Try amazon or ebay. Any sub $30 unit should be good as you are not after studio quality sq.

I have this Anker BT TX/RX adapter, and it has worked great with my TV when I watch some late-nights on TV while baby is sleeping. The only downside is that it sometimes have a slight delay and you can't recharge while it's operating. Not sure how long you watch TV for, but it's good for an hour or two at least.

Doing some math your score adds up to 64 out of 80 so it should be 8 out of 10.
