Star head bolt issue I have a star head that I want to take out. Problem is, the star on the bolt is worn out, like shredded away and now there is just a circle indentation. How do I get it out? |
|
Take a pic of it and lets see how bad it is. Choices are drill it out, or depending how soft the metal is, use a file or blade to make a slot in the head and then use a flat head to get it out or as above, if you've got one, the bolt extractor. |
*Torx Spoiler! |
Depending on how much room you have and tools you have one hand. Cut a slit on the head and use a flat head screwdriver If its a countersunk head (flush) try to chisel it out in a counterclockwise direction |
If it's not a countersunk head, can you grab it with some vice grips? The above posted bolt extractors work a lot of the time. About 12 bucks at Canadian Tire. |
need pic to determine size and accessibility |
size is probably a little smaller than a dime. accessibility, it's on the ceiling of my trunk. it's the navigation unit of a 2011 honda accord. |

Lol "A little smaller than a dime". So is that like a lot smaller than a quarter? |
It's probably close to the inside bit of a twoonie. |
Its on a honda, they hardly ever use torx. I'm pretty sure his "star head" is gonna be a Philips lol |
1 Attachment(s) which one abused you? |
^LOL at philips square supa drive |
The best part is all but a couple of those can just be removed with normal screwdrivers. |
