Not everyone knows their DL# by memory. I find I have to provide mine for one reason or another every couple of months, and I still have to look at the card to see what it is. It's one of those things, if *I* was handed a ticket with my DL# written wrong, I'd never noticed it unless I thought to specifically compare it to my card.
